Looking for an opportunity to use your skills and abilities to influence the strategic direction of a major software company?

The Research Engineering team of Autodesk Research is hiring a Principal Software Developer. As a member of the Research Engineering team, you'll prototype software solutions for strategic research projects, demonstrating innovations for Autodesk products.

We are looking for a software developer capable of working on software projects ranging from desktop applications written in C++ to proof of concept systems written in Python to full stack cloud solutions running on AWS . We are also looking for someone who can understand Research Engineering cloud computing needs and constructively advocate on our behalf with other teams within Autodesk.

As a developer in Research Engineering, you'll play a key role shepherding "what-if" ideas into tangible proof of concept demonstrations and prototypes. When you identify common technology needs within Autodesk Research, you'll help plan and implement solutions to meet them. Autodesk Research is a hotbed of rapidly evolving projects, experimenting with cutting edge technologies, and delivers solutions with real-world benefits for our customers and society. Research Engineering is a supportive, international team of experienced developers, UX designers and QA specialists.

This position is based anywhere in Canada, with a preference for Toronto or Montreal.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with scientists and software engineers in Autodesk

• Research to develop prototype applications and cloud solutions demonstrating innovation

• Work closely with our enterprise solutions team to ensure cloud deployments are aligned with corporate security and trust best practices

• Maintain a productive relationship with our platform development team and ensure our prototype cloud solutions leverage Autodesk's platform

• Capture and document successful platform integrations and highlight opportunities to improve the platform based on research prototypes

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong software development skills, and a solid foundation in computer science/software engineering

• 5+ years of experience experience developing commercial software

• 5+ solutions

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related

Preferred Qualifications

• C++ experience in a professional context

• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply them to a problem with a high level of quality

• Enjoys building full stack cloud solutions

• Experience working in a research & development context, working on novel solutions

• Experience using AWS solutions for cloud solution development and deployment

• Experience working with a variety of technologies on a diverse set of projects

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For Canada-BC based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $112,800 and $155,100. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
