What You Will Do:

We are looking for a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in seismology and related areas, such as seismic wave modeling, seismic imaging and inversion, moment-tensor inversion, Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) ambient noise analysis, and machine learning applications in geophysics. The successful candidate will contribute to groundbreaking research that addresses key challenges in:

• Nuclear explosion monitoring
• Geothermal energy exploration and monitoring
• Hydrogen energy development
• Geologic carbon storage

The EES Division at LANL is at the forefront of addressing critical national and global challenges. Our research spans a wide range of topics, including subsurface imaging, ground-shock modeling, infrasound, and seismology. These efforts support essential missions in energy innovation, seismic hazard mitigation, and national threat detection.

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will work in a multidisciplinary team of leading experts, combining observational and computational geophysics to solve real-world problems. Required Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in Seismology, Geophysics, or a related field (completed within the last five years or nearing completion).
• Research experience in any of the following areas: seismic wave modeling, seismic imaging and inversion, moment-tensor inversion, ambient noise analysis, machine learning, and field data analysis
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
• Proficiency in scientific computation is required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• Ability to obtain a security clearance, which generally requires US Citizenship.
• Demonstrated expertise in the following areas: seismic wave modeling, seismic imaging and inversion, moment-tensor inversion, ambient noise analysis, machine learning, and field data analysis.

Work Environment:

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
