    The Center for Cancer Care at Exeter Hospita l in Exeter, New Hampshire, is recruiting for a full-time board-certified Medical Physicist (board-eligible candidates may apply ); competitive salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and certification. The successful professional will join a welcoming and collaborative team of one Physicist and one Dosimetrist dedicated to the highest clinical standards of accuracy and safety in radiotherapy delivery. The Center provides comprehensive inpatient/outpatient oncology services in newly-affiliated partnership with Beth Israel Lahey Health, whose Radiation Oncologists will oversee radiotherapy for 30-40 patients/day. Exeter Hospital's commitment to clinical quality is reflected in departmental ACR accreditation, Cancer Center accreditation by the CoC and NAPBC, and active participation in national clinical trials. The department is resourced with two Varian LINACs-one TrueBeam, one newly-installed EDGE-employing VisionRT/OSMS and 6DOF couches to support a full array of external beam treatments (3DCRT, FB/DIBH gating, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and SRS). Patients are simulated on a GE Lighstpeed RT 16-slice 4DCT simulator, and TPS infrastructure includes Eclipse v.16.1 with MCO and RapidPlan, Velocity v3.0, and Radformation's AutoContour, ClearCheck, and ClearCalc products; MOSAIQ v.2.82 is currently the departmental OIS/EMR, with a planned transition to ARIA forthcoming. Key responsibilities include all aspects of routine therapeutic clinical medical physics practice, including some treatment planning; candidates will also be encouraged to participate in quality improvement, departmental patient safety, and educational training opportunities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Master's degree or equivalent experience

    Major Responsibilities:

    1. Consult with the radiation therapy physicians and dosimetrist to develop treatment plans and dosimetry for both external beam and brachytherapy. Ensures proper input data for treatment planning computer by comparison with measured isodose curves. Generates computer treatment plans as requested by the physician.

    2. Calibrates treatment machines on a regular basis and records information appropriately. Performs full calibration; leakage and barrier survey on new equipment. Performs weekly and monthly output checks on all treatment machines; Simulator/CT; and safety interlocks. Performs annual calibration of all radio therapy equipment according to state regulatory requirements. Recalibrates all equipment following any major repairs promptly

    3. Performs monthly check of gantry; collimator; light field; radiation field; flatness and symmetry; laser alignment and weekly ODI and laser checks.

    4. Maintain regulatory compliance for the Radiation Oncology Department as stated by the Department of Public Health for the State of NH . Ensures compliance with requirements of federal; state; and other regulatory agencies. Verifies proper posting of radioactive and high radiation area signage.

    5. Performs comprehensive chart checks weekly of each patient under treatment. Performs final review of treatment charts to ensure desired prescription was delivered.

    6. Assures that QA measurements are performed for all IMRT cases prior to start of treatment. Assumes responsibility for Quality Improvement activities within the Radiation Oncology Department. Participates as a committee member for the Quality Improvement Committee. Implements policies and procedures that align with ASTRO/ACR recommendations for safe delivery of radiation therapy. Performs routine quality assurance documentation of all treatment equipment.

    7. Provides continuing education programs on radiation safety for department and hospital staff. Prepares appropriate material for educational workshops; lectures and training events for other staff. Provides in-service education and/or orientation; competency training of new staff.

    8. Adheres to BSI; infection control; and isolation policies.

    9. Assumes responsibility for the monitoring of film badge distribution and retrieval. Posts all reading in accordance with state regulatory requirements. Wears a film badge and uses cumulative report to adjust activity.

    10. Exercises necessary radiation protection for patients; self; and all other personnel. Monitors radiation exposure of all radiation oncology and nursing personnel; and verifies their use of dosimeters.
