Overview:
The position Physician (Preventive Medicine) is located at Tripler Medical Center, Honolulu, HI.
The Island of Oahu in Hawaii is often nicknamed (or translated as) "The Gathering Place". It is currently the most populated Hawaiian Island. The city of Honolulu is the largest city, state capital, and main deep water marine port for the State of Hawaii. As a jurisdictional unit, the entire island of Oahu is in Honolulu County, although as a place name, Honolulu occupies only a portion of the southeast end of the island. Well-known features found on Oahu include Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma, Kane’ohe Bay, Kailua Bay, North Shore, and the resort destination, Ko’Olina.
Oahu is also known for having the longest rain shower in history, which lasted for 200 consecutive days. Kane?ohe Ranch reported 247 straight days with rain from August 27, 1993 to April 30, 1994. The average temperature in Oahu is around 70–85 °F (21–29 °C) and the island is the warmest in June through October. The weather during the winter is cooler, but still warm with an average temperature of 68–78 °F (20–26 °C).
Responsibilities:
Duties
Oversee regional preventive medicine and public health services and disease surveillance across the assigned network.
Direct administrative and public health policy in terms of broadly defined missions and functions and determines their effect on program needs.
Develop regional preventive medicine operational plans, orders and tasks to accomplish Defense Health Agency mission support requirements.
Subject matter expert in advanced clinical public health care, theories, concepts, principles, and methods to experimental theories and/or new advanced developments to solve complex public health problems.
Recommend significant changes to or the creation of new public health policies and/or programs to achieve far-reaching impact on long term goals with potential impact on broad agency policy objectives.
Strategically anticipate future requirements and development of new standards, methods, and techniques and evaluate the impact of these products.
Serve as the Defense Health Network Public Health Emergency Officer (PHEO) for public health emergency preparedness and response across the assigned area of operations.

Incumbent will be credentialed/privileged at TAMC

In addition to salary, employees in Hawaii are currently authorized a 8.9% cost-of-living-allowance, subject to change without notice
Qualifications:
US Citizenship is required
Board certification is required in almost all cases
Active, unencumbered medical license is required
Conditions of Employment
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
Qualifications
A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)
