    Responsibilities

    Job Summary

    The nature of "lead" responsibilities may vary slightly depending on the core job, but generally involve exercising limited supervision over a group of employees that are typically classified in the same core job family. An incumbent performs much the same work as others in the job family, participating in the day-to-day operations of the work unit, in addition to assigned lead duties. The work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures and equipment applicable to the work unit at appointment.

    Lead Job Duties

    • Pre-screens job applicants and may conduct initial employment interviews; participates in the processes for employee new hires and terminations; may conduct department-level new hire orientations.

    • Coordinates and provides job orientation and training to new employees; coordinates and participates in the evaluation of technicians during externship; monitors work flow, prepares work schedules and reviews work to ensure it meets quality and productivity standards; orders/maintains appropriate supply levels; identifies training needs and advises higher-level authority.

    • Monitors individual staff performance and provides feedback to higher-level authority; coaches employees on procedure and protocols; may provide input into formal employee performance evaluations; may make recommendations with respect to employee pay, recognition, discipline and/or termination.

    • May assist in implementing new procedures or processes; explains new and/or revised procedures, forms or other tools to staff; may demonstrate new systems, PC applications, equipment or supplies.

    • Assists employees with complex/unprecedented/ambiguous matters, reviews elevated issues/situations and takes action consistent with assigned scope of authority.

    Additional Job Requirements

    • Considerable knowledge of the policies, standards, procedures, processes and tools applicable to the work unit and the function.

    • Ability to provide effective on-the-job training and review/schedule the work assignments of other staff.

    Qualifications

    Additional Education/Work Experience

    One year of work experience in the senior level of the job family, or any combination of experience or education that would demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

    Pay Range

    $26.62 - $39.44 /hour
