    Position Summary

    Using lived experience with trauma and/or having entered the foster care/child welfare system at some point in childhood. The Foster Care Peer Support Specialists guide, coach, and mentor others who are currently in the foster care system whether in group or residential placement or in a foster home. The personal experience of trauma and foster care is utilized to help the Aetna team understand how best to coordinate care for members and develop action plans for the members they are supporting. The FC PSS share coping strategies, wellness tools and other resources with care managers, care coordinators and the members, to best meet the needs of the member where they are at in that point in time. FC Peer Support Specialists serve the community as a bridge between the member, the child welfare, and the healthcare system (providers) through outreach and education. By providing these services, FC Peer Support Specialist's help Aetna members attain and maintain better health outcomes, improve relationships, and assist with finding supports for the member.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must have lived experience in foster care and/or a personal background of trauma and willingness to work from that narrative.

    • Must have knowledge of local community supports and services, formal and informal community agencies and resources.

    • Ability to educate health care providers as needed to adjust interventions based on member's cultural, ethnic, or religious preferences.

    • Experience providing care to socially and medically complex patients effectively in a variety of non-traditional settings.

    • Working knowledge of multi-system outreach programs related to health care delivery, clinical education, and health-related services.

    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage multiple priorities, utilizes effective time management skills, and exercise sound judgment.

    • Experience using a computer and strong keyboard navigation skills including the use of MS Office Suite, Word, and Excel applications.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Preferred skills: Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Informed Care, HIPAA, C.L.A.S. Standards, Motivational Interviewing, and specialized training in medical terminology and practices for designated health conditions.

    • Exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail required.

    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

    Education

    • If not certified, completion of a certification as a foster care/trauma peer support specialist, or equivalent within two years of hire.

    • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

    Pay Range

    The typical pay range for this role is

    $18.50 - $31.72

    This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
