Patient Advocacy Manager, Rare Diseases
Reports to: Director, Government Affairs and Advocacy
Location: Canada Remote Worker
What you will do
Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will support and advance Amgen Canada's Rare Disease portfolio help shape solutions that provide equitable, optimal, and timely access for Amgen's products.
The Patient Advocacy Manager positions Amgen as a reputable and ethical partner with relevant stakeholders, while developing and implementing customized collaborations to deliver measurable results.
The Patient Advocacy Manager collaborates with cross-functional internal stakeholders to develop and implement our partnership strategies in a way that meets the needs of and connects opportunities across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Identify and build long term substantive relationships with advocacy groups and other partners to advance Amgen's mission to serve patients rare disease and related portfolio based on values of trust, respect and transparency
Build foundational advocacy landscape reviews for rare diseases and work with internal leadership and cross-functional teams to develop engagement strategies and patient group engagement plan to address patient needs
Coordinate national and regional stakeholder activity for areas of responsibility
Adhere to governance model and key principles for partner engagement as established through Global and local compliance SOPs
Develop an advocacy strategy with each group that is aligned to internal organizational, access and policy objectives while respecting the independence of patient groups in decision-making
Empower and mobilize advocacy organizations to increase patient education, and facilitate equitable, timely, and optimal access to appropriate therapies
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to identify projects to include patient perspectives and help support execution of a patient-oriented plan.
Work with internal communications and corporate affairs colleagues to build external and internal communication plans related to patients
Provide input and advice to internal strategic plans and align advocacy internal functions to ensure One Amgen voice and priorities are incorporated into engagement plans
Facilitates connections between patient advocacy groups with appropriate internal subject matter experts including medical, government affairs, policy, and access
Identifies and understands the drivers behind the official positions, priorities, and networks of influence of key patient and professional associations and advocacy groups to advise Amgen's business strategies
Incorporates simple and transparent systems for patient advocacy groups to understand Amgen's partnership and funding requirements
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
5+ years of biopharmaceutical experience with an adequate foundational understanding of the current Canadian pharmaceutical and health policy landscape. Preference will be given for candidates with an established network of relationships with key agencies and partner/advocacy groups, especially in rare diseases.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in health, biotechnology, medical or pharmaceuticals sector
Experience in managing diverse partners including patient advocates
Superior communication skills to simplify complex concepts and issues
Superior interpersonal ability and adaptability, working in a cross-functional and team-oriented framework
Ability to work in teams, in a complex matrix environment and align with the business around objectives and desired outcomes
Strong writing ability and project management skills, proficiency in online systems, social media, and corporate campaigns/ sponsorships
Superior skill in building trusting relationships, to create opportunities to effectively shape and co-design advocacy strategies and partner coalitions to support patients.
Understanding of the Canadian health and pharmaceutical policy landscape, and ability to apply this to long term planning for Amgen's portfolio
Undergraduate degree in Science, Biotechnology, Health Policy, or Communications is an asset.
Bilingualism (French & English) is an asset.
