    Title: Special Education Interventer Paraprofessional Position

    Summary

    Working 1-1 with a student who has combined hearing and vision loss (deafblindess) to provide critical connections to other people and the environment. The intervener open channels of communication between the child and others, provides access to information and the environment, and facilitates opportunities for learing and development. Working in close collaboration with the classroom teacher, special education professionals, and the student's family, the intervener will implement targeted learning strategies and behavioral interventions as outlined in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). This position focuses on fostering independence, building positive relationships, and creating a supportive learning environment for the student.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Targeted Support: Deliver one-on-one or small group instruction based on the student's IEP goals in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and social-emotional skills.
    • Behavioral Interventions: Implement positive behavioral support strategies to address specific needs, using proactive redirection and promoting self-regulation.
    • Adaptations and Modifications: Modify curriculum and materials to meet the student's learning style and needs, ensuring they can access the general education curriculum.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with the student's classroom teacher, special education team, therapists, and family for consistency in approach and to share insights.
    • Observation and Record-Keeping: Observe the student's behavior, academic performance, and social interactions. Maintain accurate records and provide progress reports for the student's IEP team.
    • Communication: Facilitate open communication between the student, classroom teacher, parents, and other support staff.
    Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or some college coursework in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
    • Experience working with elementary-aged students, especially those with special needs.
    • Demonstrated ability to build positive rapport with children.
    • Knowledge of effective instructional and behavioral intervention strategies.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine desire to help a student succeed.
    Additional Desired Skills
    • Experience with data collection and progress monitoring.
    • Background in working with students with specific learning disabilities or behavioral challenges.
    Compensation: Student contact days (175 days) until the end of each school year. Position is 7:45-3:00 pm on student contact days. Rate of pay is $17.05 per hour plus longevity pay if applicable.

    Must be able to attend paid training sessions in Twin Cities Area for 1 year 1 time per month. The training goes from Friday, 4:00 throught Saturday afternoon. The district will pay for travel time, mileage, hotel and meals.

    The intervener will travel with the student as they progree through their school career here in St. Peter. Example: For the 2024-25 school-year the student will be in 2nd grade. When the student finishes 4th grade, this position would move to the Middle School for 5th grade.....

    In the event that the student moves from the district, the paraprofessional will drop to the regular paraprofessional rate of pay.
