Paraprofessional I or II I. General Description: To support students and staff in maintaining appropriate activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively. The paraprofessional may work in a general education classroom setting and/or in an exceptional student classroom setting. The Paraprofessional I or II may include the following roles:
- Interventionist
- Alternative Classroom Placement (ACP)
- Library Assistant
- Student/Cluster Specific
II. Qualifications:- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion para educator assessment, 60 college credits (100 level or higher), or an Associate's degree
- Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card
- General clerical experience (preferred)
- Must be able to push, pull, or lift weights of at least 30 pounds
- Must be proficient in the use of the English language, both verbal and written
- First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained by the district)
III. Duties and Responsibilities for all Paraprofessionals:- Assists in executing the daily and long range lesson planning
- Conducts learning exercises with individual children or small groups of children, in program related activities
- Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with each other
- Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children
- Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary
- Assists with supervision of children in the classroom, playground, and/or cafeteria
- Assists the teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas
- Assists in the preparation and the collection of educational materials such as bulletin boards, charts, audio-visuals, seatwork, dittos, flash cards, etc.
- Attends in-service activities designed to help with instruction
- Prepares and administers reading, math and language assessment testing to students as necessary
- Tutors students as may be necessary
- Maintains files and records as directed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
IV. Additional Duties and Responsibilities specific for Library Assistant:- Responsible for circulation and shelving of all libraray materials, including textbooks
- Maintain the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its displays
- Assists in receiving and processing materials selected for purchase
- Informs teachers and students of overdue books on a regular basis
- Makes repairs on damaged books
- Collaborates with site staff to identify materials for specific units or projects
- Completes inventory of library materials
- Maintains the overall operation of the library
Reports To: Classroom Teacher and/or Administration
Terms of Employment: 10 Months, 29.5 hours per week
