    About the role - Operator (Winnemucca, Nevada)

    We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for an Operator within our Specialty Mining Chemicals team who will be responsible for operations regarding rail and freight loading and unloading, as well as basic process equipment. With high priorities placed on safety and health, protection of the environment and economics, convert raw materials into liquid sodium cyanide and ensure timely shipments to the customers.

    Work schedule
    • Rotating day and night shift
    • 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM days
    • 6:00 PM to 7:30 AM nights
    Work environment
    • Outdoors and indoor work environments with adequate ventilation
    • Possible fumes or airborne particles with air contamination (i.e., dust, fume, smoke, etc.)Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided for all employees
    • Moderate noise level working in close proximity to pieces of equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided for all employees
    What you will be doing
    • Monitor product movement to and from storage tanks, coordinating activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow
    • Record operating data such as products and quantities pumped, gauge readings, and operating times, manually or using computers
    • Check conditions and weights of vessels to ensure cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures
    • Rail car groundwork - connecting and disconnecting couplers and air lines and spotting for the railcar mover
    • Set manual brakes on rail cars
    • Provide grounds keeping services, such as clearing weeds
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    What you will bring
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
    • Basic computer skills required
    • Continuous successful completion of safety training courses and any other courses deemed appropriate by the company
    Physical requirements
    • Ascending or descending stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
    • Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner
    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects
    • Ability to sustain prolonged use of a Computer
    • Ability to drive at night
    Your qualifications
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
    • Valid driver's license is required
