  • What You Will Do

    This position will be filled at either the Job Title Operations Support Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Institutional Facilities Directorate (IF FOD) is seeking a motivated and customer service focused individual to provide operational, business, and maintenance support to advance our team! Institutional Facilities is a new organization at the Laboratory focused on providing over 800+ facilities across the Laboratory are available to the workforce in order to meet mission needs.

    The Operations Support & Improvement (OSI) is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Operations Support Specialist. Reporting to the Operations Support Improvement (OSI) Team Leader in Institutional Facilities (IF), this position will provide operational support and oversight to the FOD Performance Assurance program.

    Operations Support Specialist 1 ($57,800 - $89,500)

    In order to meet the needs of the FOD, the Operations Support Specialist (OSS) must be an excellent problem-solver and be able to anticipate challenges and obstacles. Interaction with a number of customers and organizational contacts with unique needs and skillsets is a must for this candidate. You will consistently demonstrate attention to detail, initiative, versatility, and tact. You will work closely with your team in creating an environment marked by close cooperation, adaptability, and a willingness to provide support where needed.

    Operations Support Specialist 2 ($69,500 - $110,300)

    In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will provide program management support to the IF portfolio. The selected individual will assist in the development of detailed plans to manage processes, scope, quality, efficiency, risk to deliverables and communications. Additionally, you will facilitate meetings and provide structure to accomplish portfolio outcomes.

    What You Need

    Technical Expertise:

    Experience providing issues management support for a diverse range of complex issues where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors, including the compilation, review, and assessment of data and the development of management assessments and/or recommendations. Experience assisting in developing corrective actions that accurately address apparent and root cause analysis, data analysis, project management, safety and coordination of presentations and briefings. Experience following established procedures, maintaining documentation such as record-keeping, and development of documentation as necessary.

    Communication:

    Experience communicating and collaborating with team members, supervisors, and the organizations supported to ensure that deliverables are met efficiently. Experience with business and operations systems and standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite), particularly with Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams as well as Adobe applications. Experience in ensuring processes is followed through to completion with efficiency, accuracy, and with high quality.

    Additional Job Requirements for Operations Support Specialist 2:

    In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

    Problem Solving:

    Experience assisting with and coordinating the review and revision of procedures, scope, process development, and improvement initiatives. Experience assisting with the development of detailed plans to manage processes, scope, quality, efficiency, risk to deliverables, communications, and professional responsibility. Experience in decision making (researching, analyzing, and resolving problems both independently and as a team member), while taking initiative and working under pressure of deadlines and changing priorities until completion.

    Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires an Associates Degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of LANL's issues management processes (P322-4) and tools (iLink).

    • Knowledge of Facilities and Operations, including familiarity with integrated safety, formality of operations, facility availability, compliance, performance, maintenance, engineering, safety basis, readiness, configuration management, work control, activity approval, physical and cyber security, quality assurance, training and qualification, feedback and improvement.

    • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with customers, stakeholders, regulators, and management regarding matters of significance to the organization.

    • Ability to work closely with team-members and members of other organizations to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills, as well as preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.

    • Ability to attain a Q-Clearance, which typically requires U.S. Citizenship.

    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.     Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (~~~) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

    Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (~~~) for additional information.

    New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

    Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
