What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Occupational Physician 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Occupational Physician 3 ($146,800-$254,700)
The Occupational Physician will work as a key staff member of the Occupational Health organization to promote worker health and wellbeing at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Occupational Physician will be expected to provide exceptional service at the worker, organizational and institutional level. You will have opportunities to learn and practice medicine in exciting fields such as: radiation emergency medicine; chemical, biological and physical hazard exposure; ergonomics; substance abuse testing; travel health; reproductive health; population health management and others.
Clinical duties required for this position include: fitness for duty evaluations; management of work related injuries and illnesses; after hour call support; medical surveillance and certification examinations; and triage non-occupational health issues. Other duties include: oversight and supervision for Advanced Practice Clinicians; support of emergency response efforts; service as the subject matter expert for various medical surveillance and certification programs; service as a consultant on institutional projects or policy development as they relate to worker health; and support for the Medical Director.
Occupational Physician 4 ($176,000-$315,000)
In addition to what is outlined at the lower level, at this level the Occupational Physician serves as:
Consultant and subject matter expert for complicated workers' compensation cases.
Subject matter expert during exposure events and provides toxicological advice and guidance.
Occupational medicine subject matter expert for field health and safety stakeholders.
Designated Physician or Physical Protection Medical Director for the Protective Force.

Demonstrated leadership experience collaborating, managing, and working effectively with personnel at all levels, including Advanced Practice Clinicians and nurses.
Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and improvement, team-building, prioritizing, managing resources, and meeting organizational objectives and deadlines.
Clinical/Practical Experience
Demonstrated recent clinical experience in the practice of direct patient care and experience with periodic health surveillance examinations.
Demonstrated experience in the review, analysis and interpretation of diagnostic testing including, but not limited to laboratory work, electrocardiogram, pulmonary function testing, audiometry, vision testing, and fitness assessments.
Demonstrated passion for worker well-being and population health management.
Competency in using an electronic medical record.
Additional Job Requirements for Occupational Physician 4:
Demonstrated leadership in promoting a culture of psychological safety and organizational learning.
Experience with occupational health-related federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Experience with issues, complications, and treatments relating to radiological, chemical, and biological hazards and diseases.
Demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting occupational medicine.
Skills in the preparation and presentation of occupational medicine technical and non-technical reports.
Training/Certifications/License:
Ability to obtain a license to practice medicine by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners; and
Ability to obtain a New Mexico pharmacy and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
Education/Experience at lower level (3):
Doctorate degree, Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
Board Certification or Board Eligible by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Board of Surgery (ABS). Familiarity with the practice of occupational medicine.
Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in medical practice with 5 or more years of recent clinical experience.
Education/Experience at higher level (4):
Doctorate degree, Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
Board certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in occupational medicine with 5 or more years of recent clinical experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Current certification for National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners through FMCSA.
Current certification as Medical Review Officer.
Working knowledge of Occupational Health regulations and standards, including but not limited to applicable OSHA standards.
Working knowledge of Workers Compensation statutes and workplace implementation.
Demonstrated experience with emergency preparedness support.
Working knowledge of hazards related to biologic, chemical, physical and radiologic hazards.
Demonstrated contributions to the development of health and wellness programs.
Understanding of office and non-office ergonomic science.
Understanding of exercise science, and interpretation of tactical fitness assessments.
Familiarity with DOE health and safety standards.
Working knowledge of worker fitness for duty and work ability.
Experience with customer service improvement projects.
Experience with performance improvement projects.
Commitment to growth as an ideal team player.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: The higher level position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
