  • Description

    Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS), Pediatric

    Critical Care is a registered nurse whose practice is clinical nursing

    education and who oversees required education, competency, training, and

    professional development for Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)and

    Pediatric Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (PCTICU) in the UCLA Health system. Encompasses

    the delivery of clinician (primarily nursing), professional/leadership

    development, policies, activities, assessment tools, and

    systems. Promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition

    in evidence-based nursing practice and clinical

    inquiry. Collaborates with nursing leadership (Unit Director,

    Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Nursing Professional Development Specialists) to

    deliver educational programs and secure resources based on needs assessments

    and adult learning theory. Meets the diverse requirements of the

    nursing units, patient populations, regulatory and accreditation and strategic

    goals of the organization/health system.

    Salary Range: $124,600 to $289,400 Annually (budget = $135,720 - $197,775 depending on paid professional experience)

    Qualifications

    Required

    • CPR: ACLS

    • Current CA RN

    • MSN in Nursing Education or MSN with post certificate in Nursing Education Required

    • 3 years of recent acute care experience

    • Advanced knowledge of developing and delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation, class training and skills/competency learning and leadership development

    • Advanced interpersonal skills to participate in the development and delivery of new education and training programs and to develop positive working relationships with nursing staff and leadership

    • Advanced organizational and project management skill to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule

    • Advanced skills in written and verbal communication to convey the most complex clinical, technical, and education and training information in a clear and concise manner to produce high quality reports, documentation, and presentations

    • Advanced knowledge of a broad spectrum of professional nursing practices and issues and in-depth knowledge in a clinical nursing specialty area

    • Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting

    • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities

    • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to quickly assess highly-complex and urgent problems to develop and expedient path of resolution

    Preferred

    • Certified in area of specialty

    candidate is completing educational requirement
