Weyerhaeuser's Western Timberlands has an opening for a Nursery Technician on our Mima Nursery Production Team within our Western Regeneration business. This full-time hourly position will be based at our Mima Nursery in Olympia, WA. We are looking for an individual who is committed to safety, has a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and a desire to work in an outdoor environment growing seedlings. Pay is $21.35 per hour, with the ability to move up to $23.46 per hour after meeting competencies/requirements outlined in union agreement. Employees at this operation are represented by the IAM-AW Union. Benefits (in accordance with the Labor Agreement) include medical, dental, vision, 401k, vacation, and holidays. The site grows about 15 million conifer seedlings a year for internal and external reforestation customers. Western Regeneration is comprised of 4 nurseries and 3 seed orchards throughout Washington and Oregon.
Key Functions:
Assist team members in regular duties in the seedling production process, including but not limited to, soil cultivation, transplanting, pesticide applications, irrigation, frost protection, seedling lifting, packing
Interpreting work instructions adequately and successfully completing tasks as delegated
Willingness and ability to learn new jobs and skills
Communicating with team members and the leadership team to ensure consistent exchange of information relative to task completion and crop health
Diagnosis and troubleshooting of tractor and equipment issues
Record keeping of tree and crop identification, fertilizer and pesticide applications, crop culture treatments, and inspections
Keep the leadership team informed of crop and production activity, safety and environmental concerns and hazards, and provide recommendations or feedback on process improvements
Willingness to work nights/early mornings, including weekends and holidays, and occasional overtime

Commitment to working safe and following all safety rules and regulations
High school diploma or GED
High level of attention to detail, ability to solve problems, good communication and team oriented
Able to perform basic math and basic computer skills
Mechanical skills
Able to operate agricultural equipment such as - tractors, forklifts, plows, sprayers, water pumps and irrigation equipment
Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment
Ability to work outdoors year-round. Flexible availability regarding work hours during seasonal activities (may include nights, weekends, and off hours)
Ability to perform the essential job functions of the position, standing for long periods of time, walking through irregular and slippery terrain, wet, cold, dusty, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, and bending
Must possess a valid driver's license
Live within 30 minutes of the facility
Successfully complete preemployment screening, including drug testing Assets:
Two (2) years employment experience in agricultural related jobs
Forklift operator certification or ability to obtain it in a 6-month period
Tractor operator experience of more than 2 years
