Nursery Production Assistant

Weyerhaeuser's Western Timberlands has an opening for a Production Assistant with our Western Regeneration business. This full-time hourly, overtime eligible, position will be based at our Regeneration Center in Turner, OR and pay will depend on experience level. We are looking for our team members to be dedicated to safety, have a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and a desire to work in an indoor and outdoor environment growing seedlings. The site grows about 14 million conifer seedlings a year for internal and external reforestation and Christmas tree customers. Western Regeneration is comprised of 4 nurseries and 3 seed orchards throughout Western Washington and Oregon.

Key Functions:

• Role model safety, professionalism, integrity, and positive work attitude

• Team member will flow to several departments (Seed Orchard, Greenhouse Operations and Bare Root Nursery) at the site to work with those groups at times of peak production. A willingness to work in a dynamic work environment is essential

• Be a safety leader and participate in safety documentation, record keeping, job hazard analyses, reliable procedures, and required safety training

• Assist team members in regular duties in the seedling production processes including sowing, groundwork, transplanting, irrigation, seedling lifting, packing, shipping, pesticide/fertilizer applications, frost protection, orchard stimulation, cone harvest, seed cleaning, and seed processing

• Willingness and ability to learn new jobs and skills

• Communicate with team members and managers to ensure consistent exchange of information relative to position

• Document and maintain records associated with seedling production and facility operations

• Operate, maintain and light duty repair of common agricultural equipment

• Keep the facility team informed of crop and production activity, safety and environmental concerns and hazards, and provide recommendations or feedback on process improvements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED

• The ability and initiative to work safely, contribute to the safety of team members, and maintain a safe work environment

• Must have excellent listening and communication skills; ability to read and follow written instructions

• Must have the ability to work successfully with others and contribute to a positive and productive work environment

• Willing to wear personal protective equipment always and dress appropriately for an outdoor work environment

• Willingness and ability to work overtime as operating conditions require, ability to travel to the site on short notice to perform frost protection activities

• Ability to perform the essential job functions such as bending, stooping, reaching overhead, lifting, working on uneven ground, mounting and dismounting equipment and working at heights

• Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

• Live within 30 minutes of the facility

• Ability to operate, maintain and perform light duty repair on common agricultural equipment

Assets:

• Ability to communicate in English and Spanish

• Two (2) years employment experience in operating agricultural equipment

• Experience in directing daily work activities

• Forklift/tractor operator certification

• ODA private pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain it in a 6-month period

• 2-year technical degree
