How you make a difference
The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive medical services for inmates, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures, state guidelines, and practice standards. They document all services provided to monitor clinical services and report any schedule changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. They also assist in arranging coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period.
Key Responsibilities
Conducts on-site clinics and rounds, and ensures progress note documentation is in SOAP format and adheres to the established formulary.
Responds to emergency situations and provides emergency treatment on-site.
Supports standards of medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures, and assumes responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions.
Reports any doubts or questions regarding necessary interventions to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator for disposition.
Provides input into facility mandatory committees as requested by Site Medical Director, Health Services Administrator or designee.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
A graduate of an accredited school of nursing
An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience
Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.
Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.
Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.
Licenses/Certifications
Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
