SUMMARY: Works under the supervision of the Director of Patient Care Services. Is responsible for effectively fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Nursing Service department including Medical Surgical, Emergency Department, and Skilled Nursing Care while managing the department's resources effectively and efficiently. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and managing frontline nursing staff. The manager also must contribute to the plans for staffing and fiscal budgeting for the department, as well as, assisting with, hiring, training, and evaluating personnel performance. The nurse manager will be responsible for the ORHC trauma program and take an active role in utilization review and the patient plan of care.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, scheduling, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
Minimum of five years of clinical experience required.
Two years of management/supervisory experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operations
Directs, organizes, and facilitates planning in the nursing department. Assists the Director of Patient Care Services in assurance that professional and clinical standards of care are met and regulatory compliance is maintained. Is responsible to maintain compliance in all CAH and government regulations and provides written policies and procedures to guide the staff toward the fulfillment of their duties.
Demonstrates an awareness of fiscal constraints and works to identify ways to use resources effectively and efficiently. Maintains necessary equipment and supplies needed by the department to provide the services offered. Provides input on equipment purchases.
Assists and guides the onboarding of new staff within the department(s).
Encourages teamwork, fosters a commitment and understanding of ORHC mission, vision, values, and social principles, fosters relationship building and uses system thinking.
Provides communication to employees regarding facility issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
Accepts and seeks new responsibilities and changes in job duties. Embraces change, accepts, and uses technology in the completion of job duties.
Responsible for customer relations to include resolution of patient complaints, proactive communication with medical staff, identification and referral of risk management concerns, and initiation of appropriate follow-up.
Provides assurance that the technical proficiency and educational background of the staff is maintained for the work performed by organizing yearly competencies for nursing staff. Schedules and participates in (re) - certifications in-services and training.
Participates in the department's quality assurance program by assuring that staff is following established standards and policies, this will be verified with walk thru surveys and daily check in with staff. Actively participates in the CMS data fulfillment requirements.
Functions as an active member of facility teams: Department Managers, Safety, Quality, and Infection Control and prepares reports as directed.
Works as a staff nurse in situations of high census, and any other RN staffing needs on the floor and the emergency department. Coordinates the schedule for nursing services and ensures that all shifts are covered. Will be scheduled as the charge nurse/ED nurse periodically to assure skills are maintained and to support nursing staff competency and growth.
Functions as the Trauma Coordinator and coordinates performance improvement projects as they relate to trauma. Maintain state requirements as a trauma facility.
Continuing Education
Schedules and participates in (re)-certification as required to ensure both Management and staff retain patient care competencies. Provides in-service and training for Nursing/Patient Care staff.
Maintains educational software assigning appropriate modules and courses to staff.
Maintains organizational education policies and procedures.
