  • Community Health Nurse (Health Centre)

    Position Purpose: Nak’azdli Health Centre is seeking a Community Health Nurse to join our dynamic and progressive health team. In this position you will provide a comprehensive range of core nursing functions and services in Nak’azdli Whut’en, Fort St. James, BC, in the program areas of community and/or public health through promotion and maintenance of the health of individuals, families, groups, and communities. You will work with a team that value the principle of primary health care and focus on promoting health, preventing disease and injury, protecting population health, as well as a focus on Pre/Post Natel and Family Health.

    Pay Gride Range: $41.42- $55.91 per hour depending on experience

    Desired Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

    • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, an understanding of First Nations cultural principals and protocols in work situations.
    • Knowledge and the application of concepts, principles, and theories of trans-cultural nursing including knowledge of traditional, homeopathic or other healing practices.
    • Knowledge of First Nations cultures and backgrounds, and the understanding of how culture impacts on communication patterns, and attitudes and approaches to health issues.
    • Knowledge of health status of populations, inequities in health, the determinants of health and illness, principals of primary care, strategies for health promotion, disease and injury prevention, health protection, curative, urgent and emergent care & rehabilitation.
    • Knowledge of nursing which includes the nursing process and principles of nursing practice.
    • Knowledge of evidence based clinical nursing practice, including current concepts of primary care nursing for the delivery of treatment services, including clinical treatment practices, techniques of intervention, disease symptoms and identification, trauma management requiring knowledge and skill in observing, assessing, and diagnosing illnesses and injuries.

    • Complete Covid Pre-screen on all participants prior to meeting with them.
    • Wear appropriate PPE – mask, eye-shield.
    • Appropriate use of hand sanitizer and handwashing.
    • Always practice physical distancing.
    • During Pandemic services may be provided virtually and by telephone to limit contact.
    • Preparing and serving of food may not be implemented unless it can be provided safely following Covid guidelines.
    • Follow Covid protocol when offering health Centre visits and group sessions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    • One (1) year of nursing experience in Public Health/Community Health.
    • Current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
    • Immunization certified.
    • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
    • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and Clear Criminal Record Check.

    Working Conditions

    • Ability to attend meetings and conduct presentations.
    • Meeting people, making phone calls and sending emails
    • Extensive computer usage and sitting for long periods of time
    • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.

    Hours of Work
    Your regular hours of work will be from 8:00am - 4:00pm for 7 hours per day from Monday to Friday and it is expected that all work will be completed within your regular working hours, however, you may be required from time to time to work outside your normal hour of work.
