SUMMER 2025 NURSE EXTERNSHIP (May 19 - July 26 , 2025)

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Summer Nurse Externship is a 10-week program designed for nursing students who have completed one clinical rotation. The program begins with a two-week orientation including both classroom and clinical components, in which the nurse extern performs basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. The Nurse Extern is assigned to a Registered Nurse throughout the Externship to perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. Nurse Externs partner with an RN to learn and demonstrate physical assessment skills, and learn and demonstrate routine basic care skills (bathing, safety, and hygiene activities).

The cardiac special care unit (CVU/CSCU) contains 22 beds, including 18 private telemetry beds, 4 semi-private beds. The unit provides specialized monitoring and nursing care for adult cardiac and vascular patients who require specialized cardiac and/or hemodynamic monitoring. Patients include cardiac and vascular post-procedural patients (cardiac catheterizations, cardiac or peripheral stenting, ICD/ Pacemaker Surgery, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) Fem-Pop (Femoral popliteal Bypass Surgery) Carotid Endartectomy), Angina, NSTEMI, Congestive Heart Failure, treatment of dysrhythmias (Atrial Fibrillation with RVR (rapid ventricular response) brady/tachycardias, pre-op open heart surgical patients, and post-open heart patients downgraded to a telemetry status

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• Nursing student of an accredited Nursing Program and one clinical rotation, or a Graduate Nurse without Boards required.
