  • The main responsibilities of the position are to develop computational methods and strategies and computer codes to model and simulate the physics and engineering of fast- and thermal-spectrum nuclear reactors and fuel cycle systems, perform multiphysics steady-state and transient analyses, investigate the performance of nuclear reactors and fuel cycle facilities, and optimize reactor and fuel cycle design. Computational methods and computer codes involve addressing all reactor types including light water reactors, fast reactors, high-temperature reactors, and molten-salt reactors.

    Position Requirements

    • Develop computational strategies and/or computer codes to model and simulate the physics and engineering of reactor and fuel cycle systems

    • Develop new physical or mathematical models applicable to the design and analysis of fission reactor cores, fuel cycles, and related experiments.

    • Perform multiphysics computations and analyses related to design of new reactor systems or the modification of existing reactor systems.

    • Compare predicted reactor and fuel cycle performance characteristics with experimental results and/or alternative simulations.

    • Prepare journal papers and technical reports on the results of analytical activities for presentation to the technical community.

    • Preferred skills and experiences include Fortran, C++, Python, Git, Monte Carlo and deterministic reactor physics codes, cross section generation, core design or analysis, V&V analysis, depletion and fuel cycle, (MOOSE) multiphysics simulation.

    This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related field at the following level:

    • RD2: Ph.D. degree level & 0 years' professional experience, or master's degree & 3 years, or bachelor's degree & 5 years of experience.
