    Department Summary

    The Air and Space Forces Center (A&SFC) Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) Futures Department Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for supporting the modernization of our nation's strategic deterrence through continuous improvement of our sponsors software development capabilities and system architecture. We are seeking a chief engineer who can guide and transform the technical work program, ensure its technical integrity, drive a culture of innovation, and grow/mentor the department team while emphasizing a system engineering approach across the enterprise to bolster the Nation's strategic deterrent capabilities. The modernization of the Nation's strategic deterrent to address 21st century threats (called out by the 2022 Nuclear Posture Review) is critical for national defense. This position has oversight of the quality of the N132 work program, products, deliverables, the technical team and the strategy and direction of the work program in partnership with the Department Manager and Department Principal. We are soliciting strong, technically deep candidates with a track record of fostering innovation and collaborating effectively across organizations and equities for this position.

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Department Chief Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in one of the following specialties: Nuclear Command and Control Communications (NC3) mission domain, network engineering, modeling simulation and analysis, model-based systems engineering, communications systems, or DevSecOps. The Chief Engineer will partner with the department manager, group leaders, and project leaders to ensure that we "do the right work and do the work right."

    • Partner with department manager, group leaders, and project leaders to ensure alignment and effective execution of projects.

    • Ensure technical quality in the way we define and execute the work for key deliverables.

    • Mentor and guide staff, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

    • Steward a culture of innovation within the department.

    • Work in close collaboration with division leadership on division strategy and work programs.

    • Partner across A&SFC and MITRE labs to bring innovation into the department.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor of Science; or 8 years of experience with a Master of Science or Master of Engineering; or 5 years of experience with a PhD in a relevant field; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

    • Experience in a related specialty such as: NC3 mission domain, network engineering, modeling simulation and analysis, model-based systems engineering, communications systems, DevSecOps or equivalent.

    • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with department manager, group leaders, and project leaders.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Active Top Secret Clearance, with ability to obtain SCI

    • This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in creating and managing research and development efforts.

    • Proven track record of leading staff to establish technical methodologies that lead to impactful results.

    • Familiarity with the latest trends and advancements in the relevant specialties.

    • The ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups to construct shared value propositions and create a plan to realize this value.

    • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and provide actionable feedback.

    • Proven experience as a System Architect or similar role.

    • Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance
