    Applications received in response to this announcement will be used to fill substitute dormitory staff (Human Services Technician) vacancies at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf.

    Applicants submitting resumes to this announcement will be in a pool of candidates considered throughout the school year for substitute Human Services Technician positions as they become available. Shifts may be afternoon, evening or overnight. This position is not a full/part time position and is not benefit eligible.

    This position provides direct care supervision of students in the residential dormitories on the Academy for the Deaf campus.

    Positions at the MN State Academy for the Deaf require American Sign Language (ASL) Skills. Candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting as a caregiver.

    • Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation.

    • Demonstrated ability to communicate in conversational sign language (to be assessed prior to offer of hire).

    • Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide direction to students residing in the dormitories.

    • Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students in a dormitory setting.

    • Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students in a dormitory setting.

    • Demonstration of advanced sign language. .

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and to be able to sit, stand and walk throughout the workday/work shift.
