    Department Summary

    The Mission Enabled Software Systems Department in the Software Engineering Innovation Center is seeking a Group Lead to be part of the leadership team to support, shape, and to manage a diverse team of staff. The group leader will have an opportunity to help evolve outcomes, strategic direction, identify new opportunities, and lead key related activities. They will supervise, mentor, and coach a diverse team of software engineers in their career growth by identifying, encouraging, and enabling direct reports to take ownership of their careers and seek growth opportunities. They will also work with their direct reports to shape and frame impactful goals for their tasks. This group lead role will be the direct supervisor for a group of primarily Bedford-based engineers. The individual in this role will also have responsibility for helping to grow including interviewing, onboarding, and identifying candidates, mentoring, and working with the department leadership to identify strategic opportunities and areas of investment.

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Direct Supervisor for staff assigned to their group.

    • First line manager focused on coaching their direct reports and actively identifying opportunities for staff career growth

    • Primary point of contact on HR matters to staff members in their group.

    • Works in partnership with Project Leaders on an as required and on-going basis to align staff member goals to project outcomes.

    • Execute Clear Conversation and Pay and Performance processes with staff members in their group.

    • Facilitates the professional and career development of assigned staff members through positive leadership, coaching, communication, and recognition.

    • Active in department leadership, contributing to department business operations.

    • Assist with department's recruiting and hiring of full time and intern staff.

    • Build and maintain relationships across MITRE projects and organizations and help the leadership team stay informed of work program needs

    • Work with department and division leadership team on special initiatives to grow and shape services and capabilities.

    Basic Qualifications

    • BA/BS in computer science, software engineering, or related field and 8+ years experience in software engineering or related field

    • Leadership experience as technical lead, project lead, group lead, or informal leadership role

    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

    • Experience developing work programs, shaping work programs, and creating sponsor relationships

    • 5+ years experience in modern software engineering languages and approaches such as Python, Java, C/C++, or similar languages

    • 5+ years experience in modern software engineering tools such as source control, DevOps, software analysis, and other related techniques

    • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Active Secret clearance

    • Masters degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field

    • Prior MITRE group lead experience
