    We are currently seeking to fill one (1) Minnesota Conservation Volunteer Editorial internship. This internship is a full-time telework position and the incumbent will work approximately 40 hours per week.

    The purpose of this position is to support Minnesota Conservation Volunteer -the bimonthly print magazine of the DNR-in fact-checking, researching, and writing magazine articles, creating social media communications, and performing miscellaneous tasks, including archiving projects as well as occasional administrative work.

    Responsibilities Include

    • Collaborate with MCV staff members to assist in fact-checking, writing, and researching magazine articles.

    • Collaborate with MCV 's social media team to write and edit posts for DNR/MCV social media platforms with a focus on promoting articles, special projects, marketing initiatives, and general news related to the publication.

    • Assist with archiving work, administrative tasks, and other miscellaneous work related to the magazine.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:

    • You must be a student at an accredited educational institution during the duration of the internship; AND

    • Your advisor must certify that you will either receive academic credit or fulfill an academic requirement. The signature of a sponsoring academic instructor is required prior to beginning an internship.

    AND

    • Majoring in one of the following areas: Journalism, Communications, Creative Writing, Digital Media, or related studies. If you are unsure if your major qualifies, please contact us.

    • Strong writing skills, in order to write magazine articles and social media posts.

    • Understanding of journalistic principles (e.g., experience with a university newspaper, magazine, or social media platform).

    • Ability to seek out and compile information and research in support of project goals and activities.

    • Ability to review, interpret, and present data to recommend appropriate editorial strategies.

    • Basic photography skills (with a cell phone) sufficient to shoot photos for print and web articles.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience writing about outdoor recreation, wildlife, environmental issues, or related topics.

    • Experience fact-checking editorial articles (e.g., news and magazine articles).

    • Experience editing news or magazine articles.

    • Experience pitching news or magazine articles.

    • Outdoor recreation interest and experience.

    • Highly self-motivated: able to complete work unsupervised and suggest projects.

    • Strong teleworking skills: experience with business communication software (Teams, Zoom, etc.) and ability to schedule and attend weekly meetings.

    • Completed at least 16 credits in the major areas of study listed above.
