Gaylord is located in south central Minnesota about an hour west of the Twin Cities and 35 minutes from Mankato, Hutchinson, and New Ulm. As the County Seat, Gaylord is the "Hub of Sibley County." Our location produces liquid egg, hardcook egg, and precooked egg such as scrambled, patties and omelets. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: The Micro Lab Tech is responsible for media preparation, which includes all quality controls performed and documented in the lab such as media PH, sterilizer records, water bath and incubation temperatures on the defined frequency, Lab supplies (ordering and inventory), and general lab procedures such as transfers and slating of raw materials. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Media preparation (preparing pre-poured plates). Supplies inventory, receiving and ordering (SAP knowledge). Quality control functions in the lab including: performing temperature checks on incubators and water baths daily, sterility testing and documentation of the sterilizer, media PH, PH meter calibration, thermometer calibration. Media transfers for the rapid essays. Plating procedures on raw materials. Performing rapid tests (gene-trak). Plating procedures on swabs and sponges (includes plating and streaking). Data entry on computer. Temp abuse procedures. Responsible for analyzing Microbiological results for out of specification conditions and holding or releasing product for shipment in our inventory management system based upon those results. Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety. Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: One year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Skill in working with computers and experience with spreadsheet and word-processing software.
