    Ultium Cells is a joint venture Lithium-Ion Automotive Battery Cell Manufacturing plant between LG Chem and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest Battery Cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest Battery Cell Manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce Battery Cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications.

    Job Summary

    The Ultium Cells Medical Director is a critical role responsible for overseeing the medical operations at Ultium Cells 1 and 2. They are tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, including:

    • Medical Leadership and Management: Providing overall leadership and management for medical operations at both facilities.

    • Policy and Procedure Development: Developing and implementing policies and procedures for occupational medicine surveillance, qualification exams, and patient care.

    • Issue Resolution: Resolving issues related to occupational medicine, surveillance, and patient care.

    • Direct Patient Care: Providing direct patient care and treatment, including performing medical examinations.

    • Business Integration: Working closely with the local business to ensure the medical needs of employees and site are met.

    • Emergency Response: Overseeing the site emergency response program.

    • Health and Well-being: Promoting the health and well-being of employees at Ultium 1.

    This role requires a combination of medical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to employee health and safety.

    Key Job Elements

    • Provide Occupational strategic direction which includes policy and procedures development and implementation.

    Expanded Responsibilities

    • Overall Health Center Operation oversight responsibility (management, programs, and personnel)

    • Communication

    • Monthly staff meetings

    • Meet with Nurse Supervisor and UC 2 site providers regularly to review and discuss operational concerns and issues (patient care, staffing, business partner issues)

    • Compliance

    • Assure completion of all required qualification and surveillance exams at all sites

    • Assure compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g. BBP, injury illness reporting) at all sites

    • Assure quality of medical care and medical records through audit process

    • Timekeeping Approval

    • Manage complex staff issues

    • Direct report support and management

    • Complete Ultium Cells performance appraisals for direct reports

    • Coach and mentor medical staff

    • Follow Ultium hiring process for any new or replacement positions.

    • Medical Examinations

    • Evaluation, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Occupational /Non occupational injuries and Illnesses

    • Provide higher level medical determination for medical surveillance and qualification exams when required

    • Resolve any escalation issues on surveillance or qualification exams or difficult return to work cases.

    • Disability/WC management

    • Conduct Peer-to-peer reviews in conjunction with FFD, RTW, TPD, restrictions, etc.

    • Evaluate T&PD applications for site

    • Complete FFD Exams

    • Integrate with Business Partners (Connection to the business)

    • Provide Medical expertise to site Management, HR, Labor, Safety, IH, ERGO, etc.

    • Provide visibility on the plant floor via walkthrough and placement activity with ADAPT and Ergo

    • Attend required local meetings with safety, ergonomic, plant leadership and other meetings as identified by the plant leadership staff.

    • Responsible for the site Emergency Response Program

    • Oversight of the First Responder Program

    • Review and approve annual emergency response plan

    • Plan, conduct and observe mock runs followed by a review and debrief with the team

    • Review all actual emergency response runs and address issues as appropriate

    • Support Wellness/Wellbeing initiatives at the site

    • Joint Wellness Committee and LifeSteps

    Requirements

    • Five or more years plant medical and supervisory experience

    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment

    • Ability to communicate, motivate, and inspire direct reports and others

    • Ability to champion and lead change within work groups and departments

    • Demonstrates innovative and strategic thinking

    • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

    Education and Training

    • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree required

    • Board certification in a medical specialty required, preferably in occupational medicine.

    • Valid medical license in the State(s) of practice
