  • Job Description

    Responsible for effectively and efficiently providing patient procedures as ordered by the physician under the guidance of licensed medical staff (LPN, RN, NP or MD). Provides clerical support necessary for efficient and effective functioning of the office.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED).

    • Certification as a Medical Assistant or two (2) years relevant work experience preferred

    • CMA/RMA Required

    Responsibilities

    1. Assures that the delivery of patient care is consistent with the philosophy of Beth Israel Medical Group

    2. Performs EKGs, PFTs, audiometry, and lab testings as ordered by the physician

    3. Admits patient to the exam room and takes vital signs, height and weight, medical history, medication history and allergy history

    4. Performs quality controls

    5. Ensures that the patient referrals are completed and forwarded appropriately

    6. Documents appropriately any treatment, telephone contact, lab accession log, and daily checks.

    7. Adheres to universal precautions and OSHA Regulations

    8. Maintains examination rooms and medical areas in a clean and orderly fashion

    9. Stocks examination room with supplies

    10. Checks supplies from vendors against packing slips as assigned

    11. Ensures that patients and visitors are greeted promptly and courteously

    12. Registers and transacts patients promptly and accurately using current computer system

    13. Updates pertinent patient information, including medical insurance coverage and eligibility

    14. Ensures that all patients names appear on daily ledger sheets

    15. Schedules patient appointments

    16. Retrieves and files medical reports/lab results

    17. Maintains the patient waiting room and front desk area

    18. Processes HMO referrals as requested by Physician, Practice Management, and patients

    19. Communicates to Physician all patient emergencies

    20. Takes messages to ensure follow-up on all calls

    21. Files and maintains file units

    22. Balances ledger sheets and accounts for all monies received

    23. Has accountability for all aspects of the cash box and the contents within

    24. Notifies Office Administrator or Reimbursement/Front Office Coordinator when change is needed

    25. Provides information to other departments as requested

    26. Provides assistance with uncovered shifts

    27. Confirms appointments

    28. Calls insurance companies to verify coverage and eligibility

    29. Forwards to specialty offices all information pertinent to scheduled appointments; i.e., labs, referrals, ex-rays, etc.

    Compensation Statement

    Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $25.8995 - $26.3995 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
