As a Trailer Mechanic Trainee, your typical day would include:- Performing basic cleaning tasks including sweep outs/ wash outs, removing decals/graffiti, assisting with parts inventory and shop cleaning
- Performing basic repair tasks including minor body and electrical repairs, refastening basic components (mud flaps, scuff liner), assisting with buck rivets, installing customer/XTRA Decals and unit numbers, replacing reflective DOT tape
- Learning & using Yard Spotter to position equipment
- Installing and repairing Trailer Tracking units
- Maintaining service truck and tools within
As part of your career training for a Branch Mechanic role, you'll gain experience & expertise in completing Trailer repairs, Brake System repairs, PM/FHWA's and other safety and DOT compliance tasks to meet FMSCA requirements. Training will consist of shadowing and hip to hip training.
Through this process, you will be expected to become proficient in the following:- Diagnosing, servicing, and repairing all XTRA Lease equipment as indicated on repair orders and consistent with XTRA Lease repair standards.
- Performing safety and legally required inspections (FHWA/BIT).
- Maintaining parts and yard organization (with direction from operations management) to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- At the direction of the Branch Operations Manager, provide excellent service which meets and/or exceeds customer's expectations regarding quality and consistency of service provided.
Job Requirements- High School Diploma (or GED Equivalent); specialized training via an apprenticeship and/or trade school a plus
- Prior mechanical knowledge or experience with minor repairs a plus
- Must possess current/legal driver's license
- Must be able to obtain and maintain DOT certification
- Ability to arrive dependably on time and demonstrate consistent on-the job productivity, often working by one's self for extended periods of time without close supervision.
- Initiative to learn and take actions beyond what is required in a proactive manner without continuous guidance.
- Ability to perform essential job requirements free of physical constraints, including but not limited to bending, climbing, laying on back, crouching, lifting/carrying up to 50lbs; may lift up to 150 lbs
- Must possess own tools or be willing to obtain own tools in accordance with XTRA Lease's tool sheet within first year of employment
XTRA Lease mechanics work in a small team environment with lots of independence. XTRA provides uniforms and PPE, but your workspace and tools are yours to manage. With no shop foreman, you'll partner closely with your Operations Manager to manage your training and workload. Once you've mastered our repair standards, you'll enjoy a more independent work environment with your team ready to help whenever you need them.
