    Job Description

    The Mechanic I, under general supervision, maintains and repairs small engines, gasoline and diesel engine vehicles, and equipment. Also work on carts, tractors, grounds equipment, heavy equipment, and tools.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Performs skilled tasks in the general maintenance and repair of automotive equipment including servicing, adjusting, and repair of gasoline and diesel engines and all vehicle components.
    • Uses engine and systems diagnostic equipment.
    • Uses computer to obtain vehicle repair information and administer fleet-wide maintenance program, including notification to appropriate leaders upon neglect or failure to maintain vehicles
    • Performs safety inspections and adheres to safe shop practices
    • Reports to Autoshop Manager but able to work as part of a team and assist other mechanics.
    • Support agency emergency response requirements and other activities.
    • Clean and detail vehicles as needed
    • Assists other Mechanics as directed
    • Keeps shop and tools in clean working condition
    • Completes work orders, logs, and records.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education - High School Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Experience - One year of related experience

    Knowledge/Skills - Significant working knowledge of engine and drivetrain components. General understanding of automotive maintenance and repair.

    Ability to - Troubleshoot and diagnose vehicle and equipment problems. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to utilize maintenance software, shop tools, and equipment. Ability to travel frequently to field locations.

    This position generally does not supervise employees.
