Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Materials Engineer to join our team. This position will be responsible for the development of sheet metal, extrusions, and subsequent surface treatments utilized in Body-in-White (BIW) components and assemblies. Additionally, the engineer will work with vehicle teams and core engineering to resolve material compatibility, warranty, production, and processing problems encountered during the life of a part or subsystem. The role also involves managing complex data sets, developing conclusions, identifying next steps, and fostering collaboration across multiple disciplines (Engineering, Research, Laboratory, and Design). The successful candidate will also assist in the resolution of assembly, manufacturing, durability & field issues and serve as a liaison between the lab, engineering, and manufacturing.

Hard Skills

• Experience with sheet metal

• Material Science background

• Experience with metals

• Ability to work with complex data sets and draw statistical conclusions

• Knowledge of automotive test methods and good laboratory practices

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

• Strong leadership skills

• Self-motivated and self-driven

Work Site

This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Dearborn, Michigan and some days remote.

Work Environment

This hybrid role requires presence onsite from Tuesday through Thursday. The individual in this role will primarily work in a lab environment, which includes about 100 people. The working hours follow a traditional first-shift schedule, with no expected overtime.
