    Position Summary

    Catalent's Greenville, N.C. facility specializes in end-to-end turn-key solutions for oral solid dosage forms, including integrated formulation development, analytical services, commercial manufacturing, and packaging. This state-of-the-art facility has had over $100M of investments in recent years and features fit-for-scale capacity with potent handling capabilities, ideal for orphan or targeted drug development.

    The Manager, Environment, Health and Safety, drives the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Catalent Greenville's Environment, Health and Safety function. The Manager, Environment, Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations following Catalent guidelines to guarantee the safety of all employees, visitors and contractors while protecting the quality of the environment.

    The Role

    • Manage the industrial hygiene program which includes providing assessments, recommendations and employee awareness and training to ensure risks of exposure to hazardous chemicals and active pharmaceutical agents are effectively controlled and/or eliminated.

    • Oversee the Potent Compound Program to ensure Industrial Hygiene Assessments are conducted, employees are trained and appropriate engineering controls are placed to ensure employees are not overexposed; coordinate medical surveillance on employees exposed to potent compounds.

    • Provide guidance and technical assistance to all levels within the organization in identifying, evaluating, and correcting health and safety hazards.

    • See-to-it that external contractors/vendors are qualified to safely perform outsourced activities in compliance with state/federal regulations, local ordinances and site safety policies and procedures via an effective Contractor Safety Program.

    • Ensure Risk Assessments are completed for all API materials and procedures established for their safe handling during drug development work, laboratory testing and full-scale production activities.

    • Oversee Workers' Compensation claim management and Return-To-Work program.

    • Assist and support environmental programs including but not limited to air permitting, wastewater permitting, hazardous waste, SPCC compliance and, storm water permitting.

    • Lead the Hazardous Materials Responder Team and First Responder Team and provide emergency planning, training, drills and other activities that support effective response to emergency events.

    • All other duties as assigned.

    The Candidate

    • Bachelor's degree in Occupational / Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline with at least 10 years of progressive EH&S experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with FDA cGMP, FMEA and Risk Analysis; knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory requirements as well as pharmaceutical industry requirements and standards.

    • Must possess an expert knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations; in particular, the Occupational Safety and Health Standards of General Industry, 29 CFR Part 1910, 1926, AHERA, CAA, CWA, CERCLA, HWSA, RCRA, SARA, and TSCA.

    • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to lead and promote safety programs while engaging employees and enabling a safe work culture.

    • Experience with Carolina Star program preferred.

    • Must have completed or be able to complete the 40-hour hazardous waste site worker course.

    • Some exposure to environments containing hazardous chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredients while wearing appropriate PPE.

    • Position requires the capacity to handle and manipulate objects using hands and arms.

    • This position requires that a respirator be worn for your safety, and as such, employment is contingent upon being able to complete a medical evaluation with satisfactory results. The medical evaluation is conducted via an external vendor assigned by Catalent.
