How you make a difference
TheJBTCCompetency Trainer will work with the Health Services Administrator (HSA) and Program Manager (PM) to develop and implement a competency program for inmates that meets all applicable standards and regulations. As an education specialist or RN/LVN with teaching experience, the Competency Trainer will use cognitive remedial techniques to educate inmates on basic legal concepts and help them understand their legal situation. The Competency Trainer will be responsible for the educational and training component of the program and will ensure compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Adhere to DSH and company policies while working collaboratively with the Sheriff's Office team to establish supportive relationships between staff and Sheriff's Deputies/Officers.
Deliver individual and group educational sessions utilizing creative, multimodal formats, such as role-playing, reading, and video to assist patients with their defense and gain an understanding of their legal situation in compliance with applicable regulations.
Document all relevant findings in patients' records, provide written summaries of their history, treatment course, and other required documentation as per company and Facility protocols, and attend weekly Treatment Team meetings.
Perform monthly nursing assessments and health screenings of Jail Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) patients if the Competency Trainer is also an RN/LVN, andparticipate in IMO/ALJ processes as required.
Support the recruitment and training of new employees by assisting in the job shadow and orientation processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
RN or LVN or teacher certification/licensure (preferred)
Certification in Correctional Competency Training
Experience
Previous correctional/detention facility experience
Teaching and/or tutoring experience
Licenses/Certifications
RN, LVN, or teacher certification preferred.
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
Compliance
Must obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the course of employment.
Must pass background investigation conducted by the Company and/or Facility as a requisite for initial and or continued employment.
May be required to undergo reasonable suspicion testing for being under the influence of controlled substances, including prescription, legal, and illegal substances, including marijuana.
Must undergo security training and orientation on Facility Safety Policies and Procedures.
Must follow county facility policies and procedures.
