LPN - Neuro Step Down Unit

The H62/H63 Neurology Stepdown Unit provides top-quality patient care to diverse populations of neurological and medical-surgical patients. Caregivers in this unit care for young adult, adult, and geriatric patients with varying diagnoses of conditions, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subdural hematomas, status epilepticus/seizures, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders, and spinal injuries. Complex neurological procedures, such as intracranial pressure monitoring, seizure monitoring, lumbar punctures, and central/arterial line placement, are commonly done in this unit.

A caregiver in this position works Day/Night Rotation, from 7:00am-7:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will

• Collect, document and report patient data and observations.

• Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.

• Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.

• Perform routine laboratory tests.

• Educate patients and family members.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include

• Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing program.

• Current Ohio license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include

• One year of patient care experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination.

• Involves extensive standing and walking.

• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
