    Description of Work Unit

    The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture strives to discover, apply, and disseminate knowledge and technology while developing future leaders in the state, the nation, and the world. Through hands-on experiential learning in each of our three majors, Horticulture, Environmental Horticulture, and Landscape Architecture, we encourage human engagement with the landscape and demonstrate our focus to solve problems for people, agriculture, and the environment through scholarship and creativity fostered by teamwork and individual diversity.

    The Landscape Architecture Program's purpose is to create, enhance, and sustain the built, natural and social environments. Landscape Architecture is a licensed professional discipline concerned with landscape design, environmental design and environmental planning.

    Position Summary

    The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Colorado State University (CSU) seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member at the assistant or associate professor level with expertise in Landscape Architecture. The 9-month tenure track appointment (90% teaching, 10%) is to begin August 15, 2025.

    The successful applicant will demonstrate knowledge of:

    • core principles of design
    • technical and construction methods
    • process-oriented practice
    • design computing and hand drawing
    • landscape history
    • advanced digital design media
    • engineering and construction documentation
    • urban design
    • garden design

    a breadth of design theory and practice

    Required Job Qualifications
    • Master of Landscape Architecture, completed no later than spring 2025
    • An LAAB-accredited degree in landscape architecture (or international equivalent)
    • Strong written communication skills

    At assistant professor level:

    • Potential to develop a program of landscape architecture outreach and interdisciplinary collaboration with community and professional partners
    • Demonstrated ability to impart knowledge through teaching and mentoring

    At associate professor level:

    • Demonstrated program oflandscape architecture outreach and interdisciplinary collaboration
    • Demonstrated record of teaching experience and course development in landscape architecture
    Preferred Job Qualifications

    PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, INCLUDING:

    • Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) or Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA) AND/OR five years of professional practice, demonstrating a strong working knowledge of landscape architecture
    • Demonstrated pedagogical experience in advanced subjects of design, advanced technologies, analog, and digital methods, planting design, and design theory
    • Demonstrated excellent teaching experience, course development, research,and grant awards
    • Evidence of contemporary professional practice post-baccalaureate degree and ability to demonstrate successful technical design within drawing/construction sets and/or built work
    • Demonstrated professional accomplishments in the field
    • Demonstrated ability to teach landscape architecture studios
    • Demonstrated ability to teach technical and construction-based skills with contemporary knowledge and use of design computing / 3D modeling applications (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, SketchUp, Rhino, Lumion)
    • Demonstrated experience in establishing and/or managing a student recruitment program for an academic program in landscape architecture or a related discipline
