    How you will make contributions that matter:

    As a Labour Relations Specialist, you will:

    Grievance Administration:

    • Handle grievances and complaints result from alleged violations of the collective agreement.

    • Conduct meetings to investigate facts.

    • Recommend to management possible outcomes and resolutions.

    • Complete associated documentation and follow up.

    Agreement Administration:

    • Administer the USW Collective Agreement in a fair and equitable manner and advise management on course of action.

    • Assist in preparation for collective bargaining and if applicable, attend bargaining sessions.

    Discipline Advisement:

    • Investigate allegations related to misconduct

    • Provide shop management with advice and recommendations on disciplinary action.

    • Complete associated meetings and documentation related to progressive discipline process

    Labour Relations:

    • Build and maintain trust between BWXT Canada Ltd. and the Union.

    • Build and maintain trust between BWXT Canada Ltd. supervisors and the Labour Relations department.

    • Build and maintain communication lines between BWXT supervisors and the Union and ensure accessibility to both parties for advice.

    • Take proactive measures to minimize formal grievance.

    Unionized Workforce Development, Planning and Onboarding:

    • Participate in workforce projection planning and initiatives as required.

    • Participate in internal and external recruitment and selection activities as required.

    • Ensure internal hiring processes are carried out in compliance with the provisions of the collective agreement.

    • Participate in the orientation process for new unionized employees and supervisors.

    • Participate in onboarding activities including probation review and administration, and related training.

    Layoff & Recalls:

    • Organize and post layoffs as requested by manufacturing.

    • Conduct "bump" interviews.

    • Maintain layoff and recall records

    • Determine employee qualification/eligibility for recall.

    Attendance Management:

    • Administer attendance management program, including review of violations.

    • Confirm information/results with Supervisors/ Managers.

    • Prepare and distribute attendance letters.

    • Facilitate employee meetings related to attendance management and management follow up.

    • Track & Maintain data related to attendance management program and develop reports and metrics as necessary.

    SAP Management:

    • Reporting from SAP as required.

    • Employee updates, earner progression, shift assignments, internal movements (status change forms).

    Disability Management:

    • Liaison with disability management team and external providers.

    • Assist with workplace accommodations and return to work planning.

    General:

    • Records and file management.

    • Assist with communications, shop supervisor training and development.

    You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

    • University degree and/or Human Resources Management Diploma complemented by Industrial Relations experience.

    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in labour relations procedures in an industrial/manufacturing environment with 5+ years providing HR Generalist support.

    • Strong knowledge of employment standards, human rights legislation and BWXT Canada policies and procedure.

    • In-depth knowledge of collective agreement interpretation and administration.

    • Collective bargaining preparation and experience is considered an asset.

    • Proficiency in SAP or similar HRIS software is preferred.

    The base salary range for this position in [[Ontario]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[82,000]] and $[[124,000]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
