  • Overview:

    A warm, kind, live-out companion is sought for an elderly individual in Westport, CT. The schedule will likely be 7am-2pm Monday through Friday, with evening and weekend hours available in due course if the candidate is open to it. The principal was a former surgeon, so she is health conscious and enjoys her independence - she is able bodied, creative and enjoyable to spend time with.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support the principal with her daily routine e.g. showering, getting dressed, applying hearing aids etc.
    • The principal loves to read, but has severe glaucoma, so candidates should ideally enjoy reading/ literature, and be willing to read to her
    • Design/play games that the principal has had to forego that don’t require vision
    • Encourage the principal to walk after meals/stay mobile
    • Enable the principal and foster a sense of independence
    • There may be times when the principal is sleeping and the role may extend to light laundry, light housekeeping, or light food prep, but there is a housekeeper who performs all deep cleaning and general housekeeping
    • The principal has two mini Golden Doodles, so candidates must be dog friendly and be willing to walk them (with the principal)

    Qualifications:

    • Must have at least 5 years' verifiable experience working in the context of an elderly companion
    • Have experience supporting individuals’ mental health when they are losing physical capacities
    • Experience working with individuals with vision loss
    • Be thoughtful, warm, friendly and empathetic

    Requirements:

    • US passport, Green Card or EAC 
    • COVID vaccinated, and ideally up to date on Flu/ RSV/ Tdap and MMR vaccinations
    • Must have a clean and current driving record
    • Must be animal friendly (dogs)
    • Available to start ASAP

    Salary and Benefits:

    • $35-$55/hr + healthcare stipend will be discussed after an initial trial period.
