  • RESPONSIBILITIES

    I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides direct patient care for adult, child, and adolescent patients under the supervision of the designated provider or Registered Nurse in the milieu (i.e., unit day areas) and program activity areas.

    • Functions as an active member of the patient care team in providing quality care for behavioral health patients towards optimal recovery and rehabilitation.

    II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Essential: horizontal lift/carry up to ½ pounds, seeing, hearing, speaking, grasping.

    • Continuous: reaching above, at, and below shoulder level.

    • Frequent: pushing/pulling up to 5 pounds of force, horizontal lift/carry up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, walking between units, bending, stooping, kneeling crouching, overhead reaching, twisting, handling, fingering, squatting.

    • Occasional: pushing/pulling up to maximum 3 pounds of force, lifting, horizontal lift/carry up to maximum 10 pounds, floor to waist up to 35 pounds, waist to shoulder up to 25 pounds, overhead level up to 15 pounds, carrying up to 35 pounds, running, climbing, side bending, kneeling.

    III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Inside work.

    • Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases.

    • Work environment may be highly stressful, fast paced and hectic.

    • Accompanies patients outdoors when assigned to inpatient behavioral health areas.

    • Manages confused/disoriented and combative patients and may perform tasks which compromise physical safety. Noise level fluctuates from normal conversational level to frequent yelling/screaming.

    IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

    • High School diploma or equivalent.

    • Must meet and maintain credentialing requirements with the State of Hawaii Child & Adolescent Mental Health Division (CAMHD).

    • Current BLS certification.

    B. EXPERIENCE:

    • One (1) year experience providing direct patient care, preferably in an inpatient psychiatric setting. Experience may be substituted by a college degree and/or related work experience.

    • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
