    Your Opportunity

    Stantec's Alberta Environmental Services group is currently seeking a Junior Environmental Planner to work within our Assessment, Permitting and Compliance Team. The team is largely based in Calgary, and while we embrace our core value that "we are better together", we do offer flexible work solutions and hybrid work situations.

    In this position you will be exposed to an exciting array of projects in various stages of their lifecycle including environmental impact assessments and applications, permitting, and construction and post-construction support. Typical projects include small to large-scale provincial and federal pipelines, oil and gas facilities, and power-related projects (including renewables). We are always growing as we continue to adapt to the changing environment in which we work and are excited to work on a number of energy transition projects.

Our regulatory knowledge, environmental assessment experience and scientific expertise allow us to help our clients develop the most effective and innovative approach to meeting their regulatory and permitting needs.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Provide environmental planning and regulatory support on a wide variety of energy sector projects

    • Assist project teams in the preparation of technical documents that support regulatory application development and submission

    • Support project managers with project team coordination, health and safety procedures, budget and schedule updates and monthly reporting

    • Track daily reports, incident reporting, task status and project schedule

    • Attend team and client meetings, record and distribute meeting minutes

    • Set-up and coordinate environmental field programs

    • Work closely with biophysical disciplines to plan for and manage requirements for field surveys

    • Work collaboratively with the team to provide innovative solutions and help meet our energy transition and EGS goals

    • Contribute to business development activities, including preparation of proposals and pre-qualification application

    • Support the implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation

    • Participate in team and independent based work

    • Participate in field surveys under the supervision of the crew lead, as necessary

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • A Bachelor's degree in the sciences or in an environmental field of study

    • Direct environmental and regulatory related experience in the energy sector (oil and gas, pipelines, electrical transmission, power generation) is preferred

    • Previous consulting experience is an asset

    • Understanding of provincial and federal regulations and permitting requirements is an asset

    • Previous field experience, or interest in conducting field work, is an asset

    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
