    What Your Job Will Be Like

    We are seeking an experienced and skilled IT Data Center Manager to join our team at Sandia National Laboratories. As the Data Center Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing data center operations, managing computing infrastructure, and ensuring the effective utilization of recent and future advancements in technology. This includes leveraging technologies such as software-defined and hyperconverged infrastructure, edge computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, containerization and microservices, as well as green data centers. By staying at the forefront of these advancements, you will drive innovation and optimize our IT operations.

    On any given day you will have the opportunity to:

    • Oversee and manage data center operations, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.

    • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement efficient and scalable data center layouts, considering factors such as power distribution, cooling systems, and physical security.

    • Monitor and analyze data center performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes to optimize efficiency and reduce downtime.

    • Manage and maintain the computing infrastructure, including servers, networks, and storage systems.

    • Ensure the effective utilization and configuration of the latest technologies, including the ServiceNOW platform, to streamline IT operations and enhance service delivery.

    • Lead and manage a team of IT professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to drive excellence and foster professional growth.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize IT needs and requirements, aligning technology solutions with organizational goals.

    • Drive organizational change by implementing new technologies, processes, and systems, leveraging the latest advancements in data center operations, computing infrastructure, and IT architecture.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Livermore, CA.

    Salary Range

    $178,300 - $302,900

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    Qualifications We Require

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or other relevant field.

    • Plus, eight or more years of experience in data center operations and computing infrastructure.

    • Ability to obtain a DOE Q security clearance or equivalent.

    Qualifications We Desire

    • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or other relevant field.

    • Engineering or operations leadership and management experience in the data center, networking, or telecom environments.

    • Strong knowledge and experience in network infrastructure management.

    • Familiarity with storage systems and backup solutions, virtualization technologies, cloud computing, and hybrid cloud environments.

    • Experience in disaster recovery planning and implementation.

    • Knowledge of IT security and compliance.

    • Professional certifications in Project Management and IT Service Management.

    • Experience with product management, agile methodology, and data center infrastructure to develop business strategy translated into execution roadmaps.

    • Understanding of the complex relationship between an organization and its environment, and ability to identify connections, adopt different perspectives, and quickly respond to changing circumstances in a strategic way.

    • Demonstrates comfort with changing specifications or standards and creates the conditions in which teams feel comfortable and capable of working through ambiguity.

    Posting Duration

    Security Clearance

    Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.     If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
