About The Role
HUB Proteus, a growing Toronto based institutional investment consulting firm, is seeking an Investment Analyst to join their dynamic team. This established firm is a premier provider of pension governance and investment consulting to Canadian Pension and Investment Funds. What You'll Do
Works collaboratively with the Director of Investment Operations who is responsible for day-to-day management of reporting workflow, periodically assigns client reporting and ad-hoc client projects to the Investment Analyst, participates in peer reviews of said deliverables, and provides ongoing training and mentorship; this individual will also collaborate with other Investment Analysts, Consultants, the Vice President of Investment Operations, and Research Analysts;
Prepares comprehensive monthly and quarterly performance client reports on timely basis with high level of accuracy by conducting performance measurement for client portfolios, collecting and verifying other relevant inputs, summarizing key observations as required, and communicating reported results to Consultants and clients;
Routinely performs quality checks on deliverables and also supports other team members through peer reviews of their respective report deliverables to maintain high standard of quality and accuracy;
Develops and maintains effective lines of communication with Investment Managers, Custodians, and insurance company Recordkeepers in requesting required data to complete client performance reporting and project work;
Assists with the preparation of quarterly economic summaries incorporated within Hub|Proteus quarterly client performance reports;
In partnership with the Consulting team, supports client relationships by providing expertise and value-added solutions in a timely and effective practical manner when addressing client needs;
Logs all completed reporting and project work for other colleagues to leverage in applicable project tracking tools;
Collects and analyzes qualitative information stored on investment managers from proprietary due diligence questionnaire responses and 3rd party databases such as eVestment and Morningstar;
Prepares comprehensive manager search & review reports, as well as fund manager line-up reviews for defined contribution pension plans, by analyzing performance, portfolio characteristics, other drivers of returns, validating if an investment manager's style and portfolio attributes adhere to their stated mandates and objectives, prepares Investment Manager Summaries, reviews investment fees, and documents key observations and interpretations to support client fiduciary decision making;
Working collaboratively with the Vice President of Investment Operations who has overall responsibility for the Investment Analyst and Research Analyst teams and who sets the overall manager research agenda, periodically assigns research priorities to Investment Analysts and Research Analysts, and who also provides ongoing investment training and mentorship;
Collaborating with Research Analyst team on a variety of manager research activities including issuing due diligence questionnaires to managers, preparing manager analysis in advance of manager meetings, assisting with development of interview questions, participating in manager interview process and debriefing discussions, preparing meeting notes, coordinating with Research Analysts in identifying most suitable candidates to include in manager searches, and coordinating with Research Analysts to ensure manager search and review reports reflect Hub|Proteus' most current understanding of managers;
Supporting Consultants in delivering additional investment consulting and governance services such as writing memos for rebalancing instructions, assisting with recordkeeper searches & reviews, determining strategic asset mixes for clients using asset allocation modelling software where applicable, and conducting other ad-hoc project analysis as required.
Qualifications and expertise that pave the way for Success
Bachelor's Degree in a Business Program with emphasis on Finance, Economics, and/or Accounting is desired
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong prioritization, time management, and multi-tasking skills
Objective-minded, detailed oriented and an analytical thinker
Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
Completion of the 1st level of the CFA program is desired
Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook
Advanced Microsoft Excel function knowledge and experience is desired
