    The Opportunity

We're looking for a Junior Hydrogeologist or Hydrogeological Technician to join our Southern Ontario Mine Water Team, located in our Hamilton, ON office. You will provide field and office support for various hydrogeological, environmental, and engineering investigations related to multi-disciplinary projects primarily for the mining sector. The field work for this position is expected to be all across Ontario, other parts of Canada, and could potentially involve international opportunities.

    A day in the life

    • You'll work with interdisciplinary project teams that offer highly complex work, a chance to challenge yourself and what you've learned so far and an opportunity to push your skills to the next level with some of the best in the industry

    • Supporting hydrogeological, environmental, and engineering investigations across a wide range of projects and sites

    • Conducting and leading field work, including site characterization, drilling supervision, soil identification and sampling rock logging, well installation and maintenance, hydrogeological testing (single well response testing), and water sampling

    • Compile field and/or other data for interpretation and analysis

    • You'll work with intermediate and senior hydrogeologists to provide technical services related to both mining and infrastructure related projects.

    • Provide technical support and complete hydrogeological analysis, visualizations, and aid in the development of conceptual site models.

    • Work both independently and in a group setting under the direction of senior specialists in related disciplines.

    • Preparing technical documents and reports

    • Assist more senior staff with the development and preparation of project proposals.

    • The successful candidate will be required to travel for periods of approximately 2 weeks at a time to various sites across Ontario; Canada; and potentially internationally.

    • The successful candidate is expected to be in the field approximately 30-40% of the time, however this can fluctuate up or down based on the time of year and the opportunities and needs of the Hydrogeology Team at that time.

    What you'll bring to WSP:

    • A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education) in Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or similar program.

    • No previous experience in hydrogeology is required; however, previous field work experience through a co-op program, course work, or research-based thesis is an asset. Those without field work experience are still encouraged to apply.

    • Ability to perform field tasks, including working in inclement weather conditions in remote areas.

    • Eligibility to pursue registration as either a Geoscientist-In-Training (GIT), Engineer-In-Training (EIT), Certified Technician (C.Tech.) or Certified Engineering Technician (CET) in the Province of Ontario

    • An unrestricted full Class G Driver's License (or equivalent) that is valid in the province of Ontario, a clean Driver's Abstract and access to a vehicle.

    • Strong computer skills including proficiency with the MS Office suite of products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).

    • Excellent time management, organization, communication, problem solving, writing, and people skills.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

    • Will be a team player, with the ability to cooperate and communicate with other staff, subcontractors, and clients).

    • You have a strong ability to learn new systems and skills independently.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • A Graduate degree or post-graduate level education and knowledge of hydrogeological concepts

    • Experience in the operation and troubleshooting of various testing equipment

    • Experience in the mining sector, including working on a mine site

    • Experience with hydrogeological analysis (including the use of AQTESOLV).

    • Strong field and laboratory skills, with demonstrated applications of hydrogeological principles

    • Knowledge of mine water and hydrogeological interactions
