Under the guidance of a Senior Hydrogeologist, you'll engage in a diverse range of projects that include Physical groundwater hydrogeology, Groundwater supply development and protection, Contaminant hydrogeology, Aquifer mapping and characterization, Dewatering and infiltration

    The Intermediate Hydrogeologist will work independently to design and plan hydrogeological investigations, analyze, and interpret data and prepare reports for senior review.

    Work at an Intermediate level is used to develop competency in the discipline under the supervision of senior staff through a variety of selected routine to medium complexity tasks performed in order to develop knowledge, skills, and experience.

    In conjunction with their technical discipline, the incumbent will build the foundations of consulting under the supervision of senior staff through a variety of tasks performed to develop knowledge, skills, and experience.

    What you can expect to do here...

    TECHNICAL

    • Plans and leads a variety of field programs including drilling and well installation, collecting data and describing soils, hard rock and core, conducting hydraulic testing, and collecting soil and groundwater samples.

    • Develops programs with oversight by the Project Management team and/or Senior Hydrogeologists.

    • Monitors the progress and conditions of work program and adapts the plan to achieve objectives.

    • Develops and implements standard work procedures in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

    • Provides technical advice and collaborates with colleagues on a wide variety of projects.

    • Ensures the proper collection and maintenance of data and corresponding field notes.

    • Conducts analysis, writes technical reports and contributes to proposals.

    • Guiding junior staff in the implementation of field programs.

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT

    • Develops and tracks HSSE requirements and associated plans.

    • Coordinates the planning and execution of small to medium sized projects. Monitors performance according to the project execution plan, and terms of the contract.

    • Develops and maintains the project schedule while also holding the project team to the defined schedule to meet target deadlines/milestones.

    • Coordinates data management and information transfer, including setting up and maintaining filing systems, document logs and action lists.

    • Coordinates and monitors project contracts and other documentation for subconsultants, contractors and vendors.

    • Produces regular progress reports for the client, the project team and other stakeholders.

    SUPERVISION

    • Supervises and trains junior staff with respect to their technical professional development, current industry standards and regulatory requirements.

    • Supervises WSP qualified subcontractors to ensure they are meeting the requirements of their scope safely.

    • Understands, is proactive and provides leadership around WSP's Health and Safety culture.

    BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

    • Builds an awareness and understanding of key business drivers and financial indicators that make WSP successful.

    • Contributes to development of proposals, workplans and budgets.

    • Considers cost implication of proposed course of action, explores opportunities for controlling and reducing costs.

    • Finds opportunities aligned to the strategy to build back-log within their Group.

    • Builds a growth mindset.

    OTHER

    • Builds internal networks within WSP to identify opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration

    • Actively participates in and contributes to the Hydrogeology Technical Community in a meaningful way.

    • Attends and represents WSP at conferences and industry events as required.

    • Encouraged to participate in professional associations and has the opportunity to publish one (1) technical paper and/or provide a technical presentation at a conference every two years (author or coauthor).

    CLIENT

    • Provides Hydrogeological technical input at client meetings as required.

    • Preparing deliverables to meet client objectives.

    • Opportunity to cultivate relationships with clients and serve as the primary day-to-day contact for projects.

    What you'll bring to WSP...

    • Desired: Bachelor of Science in Geoscience or Engineering with a focus on Hydrogeology or equivalent degree from an accredited University, and four to six (4-6) years of relevant contaminated site hydrogeology experience.

    • Required: Holds a professional registration in the province/territory of work; if currently practicing outside of BC, eligibility to obtain professional registration within one year.

    • Desired: Holds or is working towards obtaining a post graduate degree in Hydrogeology.

    • Has developed an intermediate level of technical proficiency in hydrogeology and is committed to the continued development of those skills.

    • Demonstrates creativity and a willingness to learn, with a strong desire to join and contribute to an exceptional team while advancing technical expertise.

    • Demonstrated experience in environmental consulting.

    • Brings enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a strong desire to join and contribute to an amazing team.

    Salary Range (in British Columbia) $62,700 - $86,200

    The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
