    Your Opportunity

    We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist/Technologist to join our Site Investigation and Remediation (SIR) team with a focus on projects located within Canada's northern territories. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of and lead the execution of SIR field projects in Canada's north.

    Under the leadership of outstanding managers, this opportunity allows you to be a part of a cohesive and highly skilled team of environmental professionals.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Execution of SIR field projects, including but not limited to compliance monitoring, Phase II and III Environmental Site Assessments, spill response, soil and groundwater sampling, contractor supervision on remediation and reclamation projects in Canada's northern territories.

    • Participating in remote-areas field work including, working up to 12 hours per day and travelling to sites located within Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory and/or Nunavut Territory, staying overnight for multiple days up to the maximum allowable days per legislation.

    • Field work is expected to be approximately 80% of the role but does vary based on project needs

    • Fulfilling health and safety requirements and completing all work in accordance with established protocols

    • Supervision of sub-contractors

    • Coordination of scopes of work, and writing of technical reports

    • Writing field instructions and development of field work scopes

    • Writing technical reports (Phase I, II or III environmental site assessment, closure reports and monitoring reports)

    Qualifications

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    • Dedication to working safely within established procedures and protocols

    • Ability to work and travel within Canada's northern territories including field work where exposure to the elements including inclement weather is expected

    • Adaptability, organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, a love of the outdoors, attention to detail, succinct writing ability, and ability to multitask

    • Strong communication skills and the ability to identify issues in the field while working with senior staff to develop solutions

    • Proficiency with standard productivity software including all MSOffice products

    • Experience with digital field data collection tools such as ArcGIS based tools and EQUIS based tools are assets but are not required

    • Additional skills such as current First Aid training, WHMIS, H2S Alive, UTV operator training, water and soils sampling, mechanical aptitude are assets but are not required.

    • Practical knowledge of working outdoors or in an outdoor environment are assets but are not required

    • Practical knowledge of working with hand tools and problem solving skills around scientific apparatus and project specific tools are assets but are not required

    • Ability to lift 50 pounds

    • Able to travel and mobilize (sometimes on short notice) throughout Canada to complete field work

    • Must hold and be able to maintain a Class 5 Alberta drivers license or equivalent

    Education and Experience

    • The successful candidate must (at minimum) have completed a post-secondary certificate, diploma or bachelor's degree program in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

    • Minimum 5 years of related experience.

    • Previous experience in the completion of any of the following:

      • Phased Environmental site assessments (Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III Environmental Site Assessments)
      • Emergency response

      • Groundwater or soil monitoring programs

    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

    Field work may include days up to 12 hours in length, include travel, exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
