  • What You Will Do

    The Integrated Weapons Experiments (IWE) Office, within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering Program Office (ALDW-PO), is seeking an energetic and experienced individual to lead the development of a requirements framework within the laboratory's Hydrodynamic testing portfolio. The selected candidate will report directly to the IWE Project-Program Director supporting Hydrodynamic experiments as defined in the National Hydrotest Plan (NHP). The candidate will play a key role implementing initiatives to improve the cadence of IWE execution in support of core laboratory mission goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement a vision for the development, management, and verification of IWE requirements to include a graded approach for experiment rigor.

    • Coordinate with physics, engineering, manufacturing, quality, experimental teams, and Sub-Critical Experiments (SCEs) to standardize IWE requirements and constrains.

    • Work with existing stakeholders to select, develop, and implement digital tools to streamline requirements processes enabling improvements and collaboration across the IWE portfolio.

    • Train, mentor, and support the integrated project teams enabling successful implementation of requirements throughout all phases of the experiment lifecycle.

    What You Need

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Demonstrated experience leading requirements development and management for complex experiments or large systems.

    • Advanced knowledge of digital Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools used for requirements management such as Cameo or Doors.

    • Experience interacting effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

    • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

    • Demonstrated experience actively mentoring and training junior staff.

    Education/Experience: Position requires a Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Advanced knowledge of laboratory policies, and processes for weapons engineering and R&D work.

    • Demonstrated experience designing, fabrication, and assembly hydros and/or focused experiments.

    • Familiarity with LANL firing sites, their diagnostics capabilities, and site limitations.

    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.     Additional Details

    Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (~~~) .     Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (~~~) for additional information.

    New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

    Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
