Eagle Pool and Ice Rink is looking for youth and adult ice skate instructors for the 2024-2025 winter season. Learn to Skate Instructors are responsible for teaching participants how to skate using the Learn to Skate USA Program. This includes supervising participants on the ice, demonstrating skating skills, assisting with planning lessons, and evaluating participant skills.
POSITION DETAILS
Job Title- Ice Skate Instructor
Location- Eagle Pool and Ice Rink (Eagle, CO)
Schedule- Part-Time; Seasonal; September - March
Work Environment- Works indoors. Work hours and days may vary, including evenings, weekends, and early mornings with some holiday hours included. Position may require long periods of standing or sitting.
Supervision Required- Works under the supervision of the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink Facility Supervisor and Facility Coordinator
Supervision Exercised- None
Salary- $25.00-$25.00 per class, DOE; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Statement of Duties- Provide Learn to Ice Skate program instruction and supervision with some independence. Teach progressive skills that are fundamental to the sport of ice skating. Promote an environment consistent with program philosophies and goals.
Examples of Duties- Instructs and supervises participants in Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey programs.
- Ensures safe use of facilities. Maintains security of facility. Reports vandalism and theft.
- Maintains all required records and forms.
- Responds to accidents and incidents according to procedures.
- Set-up and breakdown equipment and facilities.
- Maintains the cleanliness of facilities and equipment.
- Communicates effectively with participants, parents and staff, providing accurate information related to work assignments.
- Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
- Report any problems with equipment or ice conditions to supervisor.
- Provide information to the public on facility operations and recreation programs.
- General knowledge of Mountain Recreation and its activities offered.
- Ensure safety of patrons in the facility and assist in emergency situations.
- Provides first aid care when needed.
- Inform supervisor of any known situation that may be hazardous to patrons or staff.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of- Ice hockey instruction including the fundamental skills of the sport; safety guidelines related to assignment.
Skills and abilities- Demonstrate initiative and exercise some independent decision making, plan activities and tasks.
- Provide leadership from within team.
- Effectively communicate with staff and public, interact with a variety of patrons/participants
- Demonstrate ice skating techniques.
- Ability to ice skate proficiently
- Establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts.
RequirementsEducation and experience:
- Must be 15 years of age or older; AND
- High School graduate or currently attending high school; AND
- One-year previous work-related experience with ice hockey/ice skate instructional programs; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
- Knowledge of USA Figure Skating or USA Hockey Programs preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish and English preferred
Certifications- May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
