  • UPMC Mercy is hiring a Full Time HVAC Mechanic to support our Maintenance and Facilities Department!

    This position will work either Monday-Friday 7am-3pm, Tuesday-Saturday 2pm-10pm or Sunday-Thursday 2pm-10pm.

    Purpose:

    To install, repair and maintain refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and heating equipment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Inspect, maintain, and operate H.V.A.C. related equipment. To include chillers, ice machines, refrigerators, all types of air conditioning systems (split/packaged), heating systems, exhaust systems, water coolers, walk-in coolers/freezers.

    • Trouble shoots refrigeration, pneumatic, electric and D.D.C. control systems.

    • Makes repairs to and installs all field components, such as, compressors (refrigeration/pneumatic), pumps, motors, valves, pneumatic controls, filters, piping systems, copper tubing (soldering/brazing) and electrical controls/wiring.

    • Make necessary adjustments to components in the refrigeration and hydronic systems to maintain required temperatures.

    • Test efficiency of the system with balometers, anemometers, thermometers & other instruments.

    • Monitor & operate Johnson Controls Metasys BAS and Automated Logic BAS

    • Prepare daily time sheets and various written reports as requested. May be required to carry a pager as deemed necessary by management.

    • Responsible for proper maintenance of water treatment to all open and closed loops; tests for chemical balances and adds chemicals when necessary. Read utility meters and compare against company readings to insure against any discrepancies.

    • Comply with all regulations imposed by hospital, State and local authorities.

    • Must be able to rotate all shifts, weekends, and holiday work schedules.

    • Ability to move 50lbs. Required to move throughout the facility's various buildings, roofs, tunnels and confined spaces. Able to perform all forms of maintenance work on ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, and safety equipment in order to complete work assignments at extreme heights.

    • High School graduate or equivalent.

    • Trade or vocational school graduate preferred.

    • A four year apprenticeship or equivalent experience preferred.

    • Diploma from Accredited School of Refrigeration Mechanics preferred.

    • Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings and specifications for new construction, renovations, installations and maintenance of H.V.A.C. systems.

    • Possess the ability to operate and maintain power equipment/tools, both stationary and portable, pertaining to the maintenance field.

    • Must have an aptitude of soldering and brazing techniques.

    • Along with installation and repairs of threaded and soldered piping systems.

    • Must have knowledge and ability to work with sheet metal and ductwork and associated hand/power tools.

    • Good working knowledge of all liquid handling, refrigeration, air and steam systems associated with the HVAC trade.

    • Must be familiar with the E.P.A. regulated C.F.C. handling practices and procedures.

    • Must be self-motivated, good decision maker and able to deal with multiple priorities in emergency conditions.

    • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. (No contact with medications is allowed.)

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    • Stationary Engineer License (City of Pittsburgh) and HVAC license required within 1 year of hire or transfer.

    • CFC Refrigeration Certification preferred.

    • Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Certificate
