    Pathology (Genomics)

    Full Time- Day Shift

    The Genomic Development Specialist performs a vital role in developing new clinical assays in the Division of Precision and Computational Diagnostics (PCD). The Development Specialist will work closely with a team of laboratory professionals to design and perform experiments with the goal of implementing high-quality clinical assays that meet rigorous validation standards while promoting operational efficiency. The successful candidate will be meticulous in the performance of complex laboratory procedures, possess strong critical thinking and organizational skills, and communicate effectively in a team-oriented environment.

    • Clinical Assay Development: In coordination with Assistant Director for Assay Development and Research and Development Coordinator, participates in test development activities to develop and deploy clinical assays. Performs experiments and operates equipment as needed to bring about desired results in development of clinical assays. Coordinates resources (IS support, vendor involvement, and wet lab participation) in order to ensure adherence to established timelines. Evaluates instruments, reagents, and supplies in support of test development activities. Communicates pertinent information effectively and in a timely manner. Performs duties in a fiscally responsible manner. - Clinical Operations: Under the direction of the Research and Development Coordinator and Assistant Director, Assay Development, supports clinical assay maintenance. Develops of standard operating procedures as assigned. Trains personnel as assigned. Applies knowledge and skills to perform accurately, all routine and complex laboratory procedures in support of new test development or for which competency has been established and authorization to perform testing has been granted - Regulatory Compliance: Participates in quality management and performance improvement activities. Identifies issues/factors that adversely affect test performance and works towards solutions. As assigned, performs quality control activities and maintains documentation as required by regulatory agencies. - Performance Improvement: Participates in performance improvement activities. Identifies and communicates quality concerns to appropriate parties. - Education: Participates in education of staff and trainees throughout the division. - Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures - Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

    Master's Degree Molecular biology, genetics, or related field, required. And 4+ years Performance of molecular laboratory procedures with a focus on test development activities, required- OR - Ph.D. Molecular biology, genetics, or related field, required. And 2+ years Performance of molecular laboratory procedures with a focus on test development activities, required. And 3+ years for development of molecular assays, required.
