  • PURPOSE OF POSITION:  Primarily responsible for all legal activities for the Company, its affiliates and all managed properties, as applicable, as a leader on the senior management team.  Serve as a creative and business-minded legal resource to support all elements of real estate development, syndication, construction and management and become a leading legal practitioner in the affordable housing development space.

    NATURE AND SCOPE:

    Position Location:  In the corporate office located at 5631 S. 48th St, Suite 220, Lincoln, Nebraska

     

    Essential Functions:

    • Handle or supervise all legal activities for the Companies
    • Lead real estate project financings, including low income housing, historic, or other tax credit syndications, traditional equity financing, and debt financings and refinancing
    • Negotiate purchase agreements for land and project acquisition and disposition
    • Work as a part of the leadership team on the formulation and implementation of strategy, both for individual properties and for the firm as a whole
    • Review all contracts, including development agreements, construction general contracts and subcontracts, and management agreements
    • Engage and direct outside counsel for specialties or foreign jurisdictions
    • Take on operating role as fitting experience and interest, including participation on other elements of project design and execution
    • Participate in corporate political advocacy whether local, state or federal
    • Perform other related duties as required

    Direct Supervisor:  This position reports to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

     

    Education, Knowledge, and Skills: 

    • Juris Doctor, active law license
    • Experience building and implementing legal systems to support business processes
    • Negotiation

    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and evaluate and implement strategy from a legal perspective
    • Working knowledge of real estate or construction related contracts and transaction procedures common in the industry
