    Role Definition:

    The Fitness Coordinator will provide excellent service to Members by addressing individual needs and allowing Members to grow or maintain physical activities as their abilities allow. The Fitness Coordinator will encourage physical activity to all Members by providing a wide variety of fitness programs for groups and individuals that will promote continuous participation and therefore improve the quality of life, physically, emotionally, and socially.

    Reporting Relationship:
    • Reports directly to the Fitness Supervisor.
    Principle Accountabilities for Fitness Coordinator:
    • Provide orientations with fitness equipment and perform initial assessments to new Members.
    • Educate Members and Team Members on the importance of fitness to promote health and well-being. Offer expertise by conducting group classes in multiple formats to reach as many Members and Team Members as possible.
    • Create and conduct fitness classes and programs.
    • Plan and execute special events such as Pickleball, bocce ball, Crochet, Table Tennis and other competitive activities for members.
    • Create fitness videos to play on Channel 1902 for members.
    • Provides new ideas to enhance fitness and aqua therapy classes.
    • Conduct bi-annual assessments with Members to determine if strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance is improving, maintaining, or declining.
    • Assist with motorized safety device training annually.
    • Assist with the annual golf conditioning clinic.
    • Tracks attendance and participation daily, monthly and yearly and records on participation record forms.
    • Offer new ways to recruit participants and build attendance in programs.
    • Complete Project Tracking Forms and attend meetings.
    • Keep fitness equipment well maintained and safe to use. Communicate repairs needed to Fitness Supervisor.
    • Maintain inventory of all fitness and aquatic supplies and equipment informing Fitness Supervisor to re-supply.
    • Maintain current certifications through outside training sessions.
    • Assist other teams within The Garlands to help promote sales, for example, offer group tours of the fitness facilities as well as provide one-on-one training for potential Members during "Staycations".
    • Assist with Prairieview fitness programming as needed.
    • Ensure all Members and Team Members using Fitness or Aquatic Centers have a signed waiver.
    • Assist with other activities as needed.
    Performance Standards:

    CUSTOMER SERVICE & COMMUNICATION

    • Make initial contact with new Members within 1 week of their move-in date.
    • Provides exceptional customer service to all members and guests.
    • Call Members to set up re-assessment appointments every six months or upon request.
    • Call Members who have shown a decrease in participation in fitness programs to determine cause and/or encourage increase in participation bi-yearly.
    • Call Members who have not participated in any fitness programs during the calendar year and document reason.
    • Communicates fitness programs on the internal television channel (1902) and the my garlands app by learning and utilizing how to create slides on the TouchTown web based program as well as through flyers and posters.
    • Writes descriptions of monthly fitness programs and communicates newsletter and calendar content to the Director of Activities.
    • Communicate with therapy staff to ensure Members are transitioning from therapy to fitness safely.
    • Collaborate with Wellness staff on programs for Members.
    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Fitness Coordinator:
    • Minimum 1 year experience in wellness, exercise prescription, exercise leadership and fitness and wellness training for adults 55 and older.
    • Must be flexible, highly customer service and people-oriented individual who demonstrates compassion, patience and understanding and is willing to do whatever it takes to provide the highest level of service.
    • Must be well organized with the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities and changing priorities, while maintaining an upbeat, customer focus
    • Must be a team-oriented individual who enjoys working collaboratively with others, creating a positive and uplifting environment, and communicating very effectively at all levels.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
    • Takes pride in personal appearance and professional demeanor
    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to walk and stand continuously.
    • Must be able to transfer members from assisted devices to fitness equipment.
    • Must be physically able to teach fitness classes.
