    SUMMARY:

    The Business Office Financial Counselor is responsible for providing quality and efficient customer service to our patients and providers. The Financial Counselor will collect on balances, inform and educate patients on balances, and present pre-surgery quotes.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    1. Formal training which will probably be indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent

    Skills:

    1. Ability to support the vision and provide direction.
    2. Knowledge and understanding of insurance and managed care plans.
    3. Knowledge and understanding of billing and payment procedures, rules & regulations of contractual and non-contractual insurance carriers.
    4. Ability and understanding of how to use ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT coding books and or applications.
    5. Appropriate English usage in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
    6. Knowledge of basic math concepts with ability to operate standard office machines and computer and balance debits and credits.
    7. Previous experience working with the public with ability to maintain composure when confronted with fast-paced and stressful situations.
    8. Ability to speak clearly and concisely with pleasant attitude, and present a neat appearance.
    9. Ability to maintain confidential information.
    10. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow oral and written instructions.
    11. Ability to learn quickly in a fast paced healthcare environment.

    Requirements:

    A. Position Requirements:

    1. Financial Counselor
    2. Responsible for preparing pre-surgery quotes and reviewing with the patient in person or over the telephone.
    3. Responsible for collection of co-pays or up front cost indicated by patient's insurance carrier during pre-certification or authorizations.
    4. Responsible for handling patient phone calls which includes providing world class customer service in resolving patient requests, accepting payments by phone, establishing payment plans, and other reasonable requests.
    5. Responsible for contacting patients to collect on unpaid balances.
    6. Assist Patients with becoming eligible for Medicaid by working with both the patient and Social Services
    7. Educate the patient on their overall financial responsibility and assist as needed in setting up payment plans to lighten the overall financial load.

    1. Customer Service
    2. Assist patients by phone with billing questions.
    3. Answer calls as directed by switchboard.
    4. Act as a back-up to the PACC position

    1. Reports
    2. Complete Financial Counselor Report daily.

    1. Other duties as assigned.
